"Right, Serenity dear. You need to wake up." The large door was opened quickly and the older woman set about trying to pull open the curtains but her hands met air. Already the curtains were pulled and the wind blew the fabric frantically around the room. The cold had finally crept up and into the older woman. "Albus, have you seen Serenity?"
"She is old enough to know not to run away. What if we lose her again? I thought that last time was bad enough." Pacing Minerva stared straight ahead. "My dear Minnie. She will return." True to his words a half awake and half covered girl emerged from the top of the stairs. "Where on earth have you been?" The annoyance and frustration was seeping from the woman like honey. "Sorry, I woke at midnight and went to the office to read. I fell asleep reading Professor." The girl was waved off and given a seat to rest on.
Pancakes were handed to the small girl on a plate as they all sat to eat but the food went untouched by the girl. "Do not tell me you cannot eat these." Albus mused as he finished a mouthful. "I do not like them. I have a sweet tooth but only for chocolate." Feeling like enough time had passed Serenity got to her feet and left for the outside. Shoes were slipped on but her legs and midriff were visible.
It wasn't long though until a lightheaded feeling took her and the walk back began. She got lost once or twice but rectified that instantly as the correct path was located. Trees and bushes sat bored in the insect ridden dirt that was well kept. The small paths and dangerous alleys that she wandered filled her with the odd bit of fear or worry.
The house was in view and all of the candles were lit for the girl to see. It looked almost like a temple or her heaven. The windows showed a warmth similar to the one she found every time the house she grew up in was seen. The same house that she loved above even Hogwarts. In the house also held the two people that would be controlling her life until she could be gone permanently.
"It is dinner. You have not eaten once today and I believe that you are stupid for going hungry for so long. Now, we have a few visitors." Her mother was not telling her off but an underlying warning to behave was heard in the stern voice. "Yes Professor." The two females walked into the house but Seren ran to her room to change.
A short dress that was a beachy, faded grey and white with a bow tied around the back had been placed on as well as grey socks to keep her toes warm. The wooden staircase was short but still gave Seren enough time to trip lightly and fall a step or two but aside from the small tumble and a raised heartbeat no harm was done.
The dinning room was filled with people who Seren did and did not know. Professors and obviously friends sat around the large brown table. A greeting smile was given when she found the last seat between her parents. The couple before her looked to be in the deepest of love whist the man seemed to resemble her pale face. "So, Serenity, what is it like living with your professors?" Despite the already filled plate no food was eaten when she replied. "Odd but better than where I was before." Adults unaware of the orphanage just assumed she meant the house she had been raised in.
Later it was found that some of the table actually held family as well as friends of the pair. "Mr Dumbledore." Albus and his brother had turned but green eyes set on her uncle. "Please, Aberforth." She nodded and carried on, "what was the favourite thing that Professor Dumbledore and you often did?" His gleaming eyes watched on just like his brothers before Aberforth answered. "Well, knitting, running through nearby fields. The farmers always told us off if we were caught though." The two chuckled at the memories that the story had created.
"You have not touched your food." Malcolm contributed during the silence. "I have never liked jacket potato." Minerva ducked her head down and made her lips reach just behind the pale ear. "You are not allowed to leave this table until you eat three fork fulls." A small smile graced Serenity's slips as she then turned and whispered in her mother's ear. "Well, we shall be waiting for a long time."
All of the guests were gone and there at the table still sat an uneaten jacket potato with butter and cheese on. "Just eat it so that we can go to bed." Clearly her mother was tired as night clothes were worn and her hair laid over the slim shoulder. "I told you, I do not like this." And so it went on. "Just go to bed." It was clearly the last nerve that Serenity danced on but she truly did not enjoy the food.
The dinning room was vacated and a tired teen got to her feet. The walk to the door was quickly forgotten as her mind slipped into autopilot and walked to her room. The dress wasn't even removed as her bones crumpled against the red sheets that were hers. The night was spent on top of the red sheets making her body cold and so like a real princess she curled into a ball with her hands beneath her head. The wind blew into the room and the open curtains allowed the full moon to highlight the set features.
"Up you get." There wasn't time to react as a packed bag was handed to the student and two pairs of eyes watched her get to her feet. Brown shoes were picked from the corner of the room and the bed was also made. It was like she had never even been in there. "But..." Serenity was cut short when she found herself being metaphorically or physically, she wasn't sure, shoved through a fine point until the brown shoes made touchdown.
"We have to be here a week earlier than students." Feeling like a rag doll Seren pulled back from her mother and walked a little further back. "I am still in the dress I wore last night." She challenged but it may as well have been directed at a dead person. "Fine." The small girl was suddenly ahead of her mother and she stormed off to her common room.
"Stop already, you are sleeping in the spare room." Black glasses were shoved back to rest on the bridge of Serenity's nose as she followed like a dog. "Do this, do that, read my mind." Serenity responded sharply. "Stop, you do not have a hard life. Quite the opposite." By this time the small witch stopped and in turn so did her mother. "I was brought up by strangers. People I love then this magic crap happens and I just have to accept it and leave my family. People who meant everything to me. You know what it is like to lose a child and I had a boy that frankly I introduced as my own son. I do not care if I was 9 when he was handed to me. Then I find out that my parents are not my parents and after all this my real parents have known who I was from day one but told me nothing. Then, they lie and hold the truth from me for two years. I also got sent to some prison where kids learn how abominable it is to have been born to parents who do not love you and finally my so called 'father' ignores my existence and my somehow 'mother' treats me like a rag doll to just pull along. I was happy until you came along. I want to go back to the Tipton family but 'I wants do not get' and frankly even if they did all I get is a pair of emotionally retarded parents who seem to think that they could just control my life from a distance and take the only possible happiness from me." Despite the calm tone it was obvious that Seren was losing all composure. They stood in a hall that is often busy as they just stared for a moment.
"Well, tell me. Don't just whine. You need to communicate." Seren gave a disbelieving 'are you kidding me?' look and started speaking but her voice had started to show the loss of control as it rose rapidly. "I need to communicate better? For two YEARS YOU KEPT THE FACT THAT I WAS YOUR DAUGHTER FROM ME. I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE I FIGURED THAT YOU WERE WOMAN ENOUGH TO DO THAT BUT NO. I AM NOT JUST SOME KID THAT CAN BE PRODDED AND POKED TO DO WHAT YOU SAY. I AM 13 YEARS OLD AND YET I HAVE BETTER MORALS THAN YOU. DON'T YOU DARE TELL ME THAT MY COMMUNICATION IS THE ISSUE. YOU, YOU AND THIS SITUATION IS THE ISSUE. YOU ACT LIKE THIS IS JUST SOME WELL THOUGHT OUT CHESS GAME BUT NEWSFLASH IN REAL LIFE THE CRUSHED CHESS PIECES NEED TO BE REBUILT. THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN JUST MANEUVERS AND TRICKS. I WAS NOT BORN INTO THIS HELL HOLE OF A LIFE JUST TO TORMENT YOU. IF YOU DO NOT LOVE ME THEN JUST LET ME GO. STOP TELLING ME 'NO' ALL BECAUSE YOU CANNOT ACCEPT THE FACT THAT I WAS WILLING TO MOVE ON WITHOUT YOU. Just let me go."
The hurt was covered by anger for one and by a pointed look of 'you sure you want to say that?' but it was obvious that the emotions were raw between them. "You can give up on us all you want but I will not. You are my daughter and I am your mum. I will not and cannot let you go." Seren lightly kicked a close by wall and mumbled something about the orphanage not letting her back. This was when all of the adults who would be working at the school for the up and coming year stood awkwardly. Hagrid broke the silence "yer Serens Muther ar' yer? Lucky lass."
