A comfortable cottage sat seemingly empty as a pair suddenly appeared from the dust. The small girl was left behind as hurried steps sounded away from her. Quickly though the small girl was moving also until the pair came to a large wooden door. Without thought it was opened and a welcome came from her. "Albus, I am home. With someone else."
A long bearded man was walking with a book in hand as he approached the girls. "Hello Minnie." He greeted but the visitor remained hidden behind her mother. "Where is the visitor?" He asked suspiciously and it was obvious that his guard dropped rapidly since leaving the school.
After a short step from the woman who had just left the welcoming hug from her husband, a tiny witch stood nervously biting her bottom lip until blood was drawn. "To what do Professor McGonagall and I owe this pleasure?" A hint of recognition and also understanding flicked through his face. "She knows Albus." He sighed and nodded as he took both of the women by the arm and led them to the living room.
Plush sofas were placed perfectly and it was obvious that the older woman had decorated. "So, where do we go from here?" He asked questioning the pair. "I wish to go back home. To my mum and dad." The bluntness was admired but still it struck a nerve. "I am your mother." Serenity just pretended not to hear. "I do believe that you are already with your mother and father." Green eyes took in the whole look of the pair and then she shrugged. "No. Mothers and fathers are not just that by birth. They are that by word and action. Mum and dad would not have lied to me like you two have."
The white walls were expertly done with a delicate painting to catch the eye. A true Gryffindor painting. "At least try." He seemed to be speaking to Minerva however. "Would you like to know the true story of how this all came about?" Seren gave a 'do I look like I care?' Face and responded. "All year I have insulted my birth parents to your faces. I knew that I was speaking of you, to you. No I know what I need to." Minerva sat and shot eyes that told her to watch her tongue.
"When we got married and then you know, we found ourselves to be pregnant. We had you and loved you but, you are not free in this world. One night I went to wake you up to feed and you were gone. All that remained was your dummy and a letter. One telling us that we would never see our baby Serenity again." There was a hint of guilt in the stomach of her daughter. "You still lied. For a year you were okay with me believing myself to be parent free. I could have loved you. Accepted it. You just picked and chose instead. I was your child but only when it was convenient. I was left alone until I wanted to move on. All I wanted was a parenting figure. Someone to call mum and dad but you always stepped in." No voices raised but hurt did radiate.
"We wanted you to call us mum and dad but it was unsafe. We wouldn't tell you until we were sure that the Dark Lord was gone for good." Albus tried to reason but the truth was his wife would have to. Both women knew that he just went with his wife on this matter. "You could have told me why. I want to go back to the muggle world. No more magic, no more you two."
The older pair had left the girl some time alone in the living room as they spoke outside but when they returned they found her asleep. Albus headed to wake her but Minerva stopped him. "I can do it. I can still remember the last time I did." Bridal style the girl was carried to a large double bed. "Tomorrow we turn the nursery into a room for her age. I want her to see it first." So there the three lay in bed as a family again.
As a far off clock struck five times green eyes shot open and she realised two bodies either side of her. It took time but she managed to peel herself away and from the room. The house was beautiful as beams kept the roof from falling and the wooden staircase was mesmerising. Although it was simple it could stun. "Beautiful isn't it?" A tired Scottish woman asked half asleep. No response came as her legs carried her down the steps.
"Serenity, I would like you to see something." The meal between the three was awkward as the memory of being a sandwich filling between them all night filled her with regret. She didn't speak but got to her feet and the obedience was noticed. "It is just up here." The door was passed the one that all three had entered last night.
Yellow walls and a wooden crib caught the eye. A changing table, toys, clothes all lay there still. A dummy was even placed in the cot but no dust collected anywhere. "My room?" The dummy was picked up and she found a tear falling at how heartbreaking the whole ordeal must have been. "I was practically a mother and I know how hard a baby can be. If I am honest there is not a day that passes that I do not see his face. No matter how sticky it often was." This was an attempt at reaching out and Albus found his eyes twinkling merrily at the two.
"We will make this room yours." The wand was waved and the cot became a double bed, the changing table a desk with quills and ink. The wardrobe even had clothes in that was fit for a girl her size. "Why?" Was all she asked as the dummy stay, unforgettable, in her hand. "You are our daughter and you cannot share bed with us anymore." The answer wasn't exactly that of a usual mother but for Minerva is was good enough. "Right, shall we all go for a walk?" Albus asked whilst he clapped his hands together once.
