Half moon glasses sat in the only place that many had seen. On a wise old nose. "You really did tell your mother how you felt and yet it was not all true now, was it? You kept some things back." The teachers lounge was filled instantly with an awkward silence as the student sat bored on a close by sofa. "Well, I am sure that this is something to discuss another time." Serenity tried desperately to delay or cancel the conversation but silver brows picked up and gave her a 'no' look. "Very well, I, well you see, I do not like living here. I want to go back to my family. Even if it means giving up my magic." Gasps of disbelief were heard and a few looks of 'yeah right' passed. Silence ensued and the girl took that time to leave. "Goodnight." It was a forced one and there was almost pain in her voice. The large oak door swung easily and the girl left not wishing to add any sort of emotion to the situation or to cry in front of all of her professors.
The halls were eerie and paintings watched on in disapproval at the shouting that she had carried out earlier. "You give your opinion very decidedly for one so young." One announced and the girl huffed. "Are the shades of Hogwarts to be thus polluted? I think not." Serenity joked a moment later when the words had finally sunk in. The floor was cold and even through the shoes that were worn the cold could be felt. Soon though the student had reached the hospital wing. "Poppy." It was warm and the healer gave a warm smile as well as a scrunched up nose in greeting.
A book was on the desk just ahead of the girl and a quill was lost on the desk. The book was small but filled with facts that she would need to do well in her studies. "Why do they not love me?" The question wasn't even on Serenity's mind but still she had spoken it. "Stop pitying yourself. They do and you are just being difficult..." the words were lost on the girl as she silently stood and picked up the book and closing it. Her feet carried her completely soundless but still the woman argued on and a few words of 'shouting at your own mother' were heard but not understood. The healer had been facing the other way and so hadn't noticed that she was alone.
Tears were silently falling as the girl walked and she realised the complete truth. 'People have their own lives. My mind, emotions, opinions do not matter.' It was settled. From now on she would just go with it. Put herself last. The tears had ceased as self pity was forbidden and instead loving other people came first. She might have been 13 but still the adults dealt with so much more than she did and so it was only right. The thoughts came to a halt as a familiar voice asked, "do you mind coming for a walk with me?" It was her father. "Of course Professor." Albus wasn't sure about her sudden change and admitted something. "I have a way of knowing things, thoughts, actions and yet with you and Minnie I come up blank." Serenity remained silent as she listened to the confession and of the words he spoke she was pleased.
"Goodnight Professors." A curt nod was given and Minerva became suspicious of the suddenly polite and caring girl. "What has happened?" She had asked it finally. "Nothing. I realised I was being silly." The door to the private room was closed and the older couple sat on the sofa close to one another. "We really did mess up." Minerva spoke but Albus kissed the top of her head. "She is still our daughter. Besides, I do belive that she has turned a corner." There was humour and a little sarcasm in his tone. There they sat discussing not much but enjoying their time together when they both heard a door quietly open. Their daughter walked from her room in revealing pyjamas and her thin thighs became visible. Her small arm had reached the bathroom door and she pushed it open. There was utter silence between all of the occupants of the living space. Soon the witch had left the restroom and returned to bed. "Sometimes I see Lily." Albus admitted and Minerva tightened her grip on him. "So do I."
Blackness was disrupted by a quiet voice. "Professor McGonagall, there is someone here to see you." The once sleeping woman came to her senses with a deep breath and she nodded a thanks. Ginger hair was brushed and minimal makeup applied. The small girl had been awake for a while. The black glasses were placed precisely. "They are in your office." Serenity admitted as the door closed. The elderly woman was being held by her husband but soon she was free from his grasp. A deep snore erupted and she knew that he was still in a deep slumber. It didn't take long to dress but this was when the time was noticed. "Oh, I didn't sleep in it is just too early. Half five?" It was crazy early and she wanted to curl back in bed. Pushing the thought away the woman left her room. "Why were and are you up so early?" Serenity shrugged her shoulders but her dim green eyes scanned the letter that had been delivered. "Who is it from?" Minerva felt like the pair were closer now. Close enough to ask the question. "Oh, Theodore." It was clear that Minerva wasn't sure how she felt but still off she went.
"How are you darling? Do you know where Minnie is?" Albus was cheerful and his steps were bounced. "Fine and Professor McGonagall is in her office. A man came to visit her this morning." It wasn't everything that was known and so Albus pestered knowing that there was more to it. "Who was it?" The book was closed and then placed down. "The social worker who collected me. Mr Rosamund or something like that." Albus began towards the door and held it open for his daughter. "Sir, do not feel forced to be here with me." Albus looked at her with an absurd look of disagreement. Dumbledore let his long beard travel down to his navel and it ticked his clasped hands occasionally. "As a baby you hated my beard." It was more to himself than her and so she pretended to be too caught up in her own world. Thinking the impossible, being home with Raphael. 'Selfish bitch' Serenity berated herself and thought of more trivial matters.
"Hello my dear." Albus was busy greeting and Serenity just found herself consumed with the man stood not far from her mother. "Serenity?" It was the man that she had been staring at. "Sorry, lost in my own world. How may I help?" Her eyes had returned to their usual glazed over ones and the slightly forced resting smile was given. "I was here to take you back to Wool's. You will be required to spend the rest of the summer there." Worried wide eyes flicked between all the adults and anger flooded off of her mother. "Can I ask why?" The man gave a look of sympathy and she hated it. "Well, your paperwork is yet to be filled out. Besides, I thought you liked my company." Brows were brought into one brow as confusion claimed her face. "I do not see you during my time spent there." It was a stupid and obvious thing to say and yet there she was. "Well, I have trespassed on the professors time and lives enough. I shall go pack." Before her foot could even leave the floor her mother spoke. "Do not be so silly. You are staying with us, your parents." Determination filled her features and it was a dangerous determination. "No." Was all the man said but Dumbledore stepped in. "She is our daughter and student, perhaps the paperwork could be forgotten." There was a look of almost warning in the blue sparkling eyes that made the man agree and with a nod he left. "Well, I see why he asked for me and not you. Now my dear, what do you wish to do today?" Minerva thought up all the fun things that could be done but the reply stopped her. "I have books to read and letters to write. I do not wish to take up time that is not mine to take." Stunned into silence neither tried to stop her.
