Please, please, don't hate me after this; I had to find a way to exit the girls out and this (my brain wasn't functioning normally at the time; at least that's the best explanation I can find for this) was the one that popped out.
I thank all the girls that offered to be in my story; it really was a pleasure having your characters and writing out what they were going to say. As for now, let's see how this goes.
Once again, please don't be mad at me after this; thank you.
Sofia's POV
I haven't seen the boys since the flight, which was roughly a week ago. School was a breeze and Mrs. Brooks was surprisingly much more easy-going than at the beginning of the year. I'm starting to think that maybe, this isn't going to be such a bad year after all.
But when my last period of the day finished, I sat down and started to analyze each period's common thread.
I noticed that throughout the whole day, there has been no sign of Britney, Seventh Grade Emily or Beatriz; nor Monica, Eighth Grade Emily or Kellee; not even Gaby, Hope or Dakota, who never missed a day of school.
Attendance was huge to all of them, yet none appeared to be in school today . . . at the same time.
However, Katelyn was here, which made me happy, but it still didn't feel the same.
"Sofia, you alright?" Katelyn asked, concern composing her emotions.
"Um . . . yes, I am." I hesitated, trying to focus back on what was happening around me.
"Oh, good! I was wondering if you would like to get some FroYo this afternoon." Katelyn jumped, a grin spreading across her face.
"Kate, I'm sorry, but I can't. I have to stay after school for Mrs. Brooks rehearsal." I lied; honestly, I couldn't have told her that I was going to the Front Office, it would cause suspicion upon her thoughts and I have enough of that already.
She sighed and took a seat in front of me.
"This isn't because of what happened with Louis and I, right?" She asked and I immediately shook my head.
I was over that. Louis obviously was, too.
"Oh, okay. Maybe tomorrow, then." Katelyn said, her smile coming back.
"Sure." I grinned back and was left alone with my own thoughts.
The bell rung and as soon as the first bus was called, I left the classroom; only to head to the Front Office and have an interrogation with the administrators.
I reached the office with no problem at all; apparently, the student traffic wasn't as heavy today because of a new virus spreading around the county.
I tapped the silver bell that sat on the desk, waiting for an administrator to appear.
"How may I help you?" A brunette asked; very young compared to the rest of the staff.
"Yes; I haven't seen any of these nine girls around campus today." I said as I gave her a list that showed my friends' names.
"Oh, they're most likely sick. You know about the virus that erupted a month ago; yeah, a lot of parents have called in sick for their child. It's probably that." The administrator tried to assure me, but I shook my head.
"You don't understand." I started off, looking into her eyes so that she could see that I was not fooling around.
"These nine girls never miss a day of school. No matter how sick they get, they come and don't complain. Even if they had the virus, they would still come because they have had worse sicknesses than that." I explained, trying to make her see why this matter was so important to me.
"Please, can you at least check in with their parents to see if they're alright?" I persuaded as the brunette looked troubled, not knowing if I was being sincere or if I was just a good actress.
"If it really concerns you that much..." She sighed, giving in as I sent a grateful smile in her direction.
"Thank you so-"
I was cut off as the phone right next to her rung. I raised an eyebrow as she picked it up.
"Hello?" She answered, looking at me while holding up a finger, meaning to give her a couple of minutes.
I gave her a pursed smile and looked around the room until a couple of fingers tapped my forearm.
I looked up and saw the administrator frantically gesture towards the list.
"Yes . . . Got it. Can you list the girls for me, please?" She asked through the phone as she grabbed a pen and looked over the list.
Every name the phone spitted out, she marked off in the list.
"Ah, thank you so much. Bye." She lastly said as she placed the phone back in its place.
"So is there any information you can give me?" I asked, hoping that there was something that wasn't confidential.
"This is supposed to be confidential information."
Perfect.
"But-"
There's a but.
"Since you seem very close to them, I guess it really won't hurt to tell you." She offered while I gave out a sigh of pure relief.
"The girls' parents . . . all of them, were deported back to their original countries because of counterfeit immigration papers. The girls did not know this and were taken with them without any warning. As far as we know, they won't be attending this school anymore." She finished with a sad smile.
"I'm sorry." She whispered before she left.
Deported?
All of them were American, for crying out loud! How could they be deported?
Something odd is happening and I am yet to be aware of it.
Eight chapters until the end. Hope you all enjoyed...
