By the time the McDuck clan had come together, it was starting to get dark. And cold. Extremely cold. Everyone was trying to keep warm... and figure out all the mysteries that kept popping up.
-Huey's POV-
After the canine's ankle was set right, Huey crept over to Della. She was attending to the fire. He watched for a few minutes, shivering in the cold even though the fire was supposed to keep him warm. Everything he had learned in the past twenty four hours was astonishing. All the mysteries Donald had kept from him. What happened to Dewey's brothers?
For a second Huey had let his mind slip back to what Webby had said at the park yesterday. Their names did rhyme, almost like a cute name thing a mother, like Della, would do. That was only yesterday, he chuckled. How time flies when your.... flying and solving mysteries.
"So, Della, can you explain what happened to Dewey's brothers?" Huey asked, scooting closer to her. She looked over at him, the slow tears returned, but did not fall.
Nodding her head she explained, "ten years ago I had had three eggs. I guess I was so nervous to become a mother, being the niece of the loved and loathed, greatest adventure of all time, Scrooge McDuck-"
"Niece?" Huey butt in. Della laughed and slung her arm around his shoulders. Huey knew that that meant Louie was apart of the family too.
"So, you know what we decided to do? Split you up. Keep you separated and therefor safer. I kept Dewey, the second born. My amazing twin brother, got to keep you, the first born-"
"I'm first born?"
"Yes. Always the responsible one I can tell. Your so smart, Huey." Della, his mother apparently, told him. Huey of course had received compliments like this all the time, but coming from his real mom, it was special. He treasured in his heart. "And Louie was given to Scrooge. We thought if Scrooge could take care of one, we would be able to come back and live as a family."
"You all risked Louie's life?"
Della didn't respond. Her tears started to fall.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that." He started before making his mom upset.
"No it's quite alright. I just... I always felt like Louie was in danger. That's why I kept moving around with Dewey, trying to get as closer without anyone noticing. See, I was scared. But I trusted Scrooge. Yes. I realize I put Louie in danger. I regret that decision more than anything else in my entire life."
Huey reached over and hugged Della. They sat in silence, watching the fire ripple and twirl.
-Dewey's POV-
Dewey sat next to Vixen, who hadn't spoken a single word to any of them since she had fallen. They watched Huey and his mother converse, then eventually hug. It didn't bother him that much but she was his mom. She should be hugging him and telling him that it was going to be okay. Plus she shouldn't be hugging strangers. His mom hadn't once talked to him since he had gotten there.
So, yes, maybe it did bother him.
"Hey Dewey, I feel like I should explain why I ran away. Why Scrooge hates me and why your mom won't even look or come over here." Vixen whispered in his ear. He grinned, a story about adventure would take his mind off of everything. She turned her head away from him and continued talking, "you see, my father stole treasure from Scrooge McDuck. Honestly, he's a pirate, why wouldn't he? So of course, being the money hoarder that Scrooge is, he chased my father down. All the way to Cape Suzette."
When she didn't continue, Dewey poked her shoulder, "then what happened?"
She snickered, "see that's all my father told me. But he always, without fail, every single day of my miserable life told me to stay away from the McDucks. That includes you by the way." Crossing her arms behind her head, she laid down, staring at the stars.
"What do you mean, includes me?" Dewey prodded, flicking a piece of grass in Vixen's face. Vixen caught it with her hand before throwing it back at him, not even flinching.
"Della Duck. Niece of Scrooge McDuck. Most hated enemy of the Karnage family and crew."
-Louie's POV-
After what Webby and Launchpad had told him, he couldn't help but laugh. There was no way he had 'switched minds' like Webby had put it. Plus, Huey couldn't be right. He didn't remember falling and hitting his head once, twice even. Nothing seemed right anymore.
"What day is it?" Launchpad asked him. Louie rolled his eyes and opened his mouth to respond, but he actually didn't know.
"Uh... Sunday." He declared. Yea, seemed about right. He wasn't at school after all and it seemed like he was dreading tomorrow.
"Oh. I had forgotten that too! Thanks!" Launchpad said scratching his head.
"No... it's Wednesday. First day of school was yesterday Louie. Remember?" Webby quietly said to him. Louie's face grew pale.
"Oh my gosh it is Wednesday!" He said leaping up, only to get lightheaded. "Which reminds me, why was I in the money bin?" Webby nervously laughed and told him to rest.
-Webby's POV-
She had her suspicions about what was going on with Louie, but she was more focused on Huey, Della, and Scrooge now. Scrooge had stomped off towards where the plane was, Webby had pointed the way. There probably had been something going on between the new pirate-looking person and Scrooge. The other two seemed to getting along well, so she guessed Huey had been told. After a while of watching, Della and Huey got up and walked over to where the three of them were. Webby got even more excited, they were planning on telling Louie soon!
"When do you think I should tell him?" Della questioned out loud. They both looked at Louie with a great deal of sadness, anticipation, and excitement. Launchpad leaped up and made a hmm-ing sound.
"I don't know if he will like that the Darkwing Duck disk is broken. Now he can't watch it on the way back! Oh no! The plane! I better go get if ready because Mr. McDee will want to get to the Forest of No Return right away!" He shouted before running off in the direction the plane was. Della laughed and quickly hugged Huey, who hugged her even tighter, before chasing after Launchpad to help with the repairs.
"So, you know?" Webby asked Huey who had been staring after Della.
"That she's the most amazing mom ever? Yea. I know."
-Dewey's POV-
Now his mother had hugged only Huey before running to fix the plane?! What was going on! Dewey felt tears falling down his face, he just couldn't help it.
"What's wrong pip-squeak?" Vixen asked, pushing herself up off the ground. "Not that I care, but your kinda loud." Dewey smiled a little. She was funny, and he liked how she was tying to cheer him up. Even if she wasn't, it definitely kind of was.
"I don't know. My mom keeps hugging Huey and I don't know why she hasn't even talked to me yet, and I'm her son! She just met Huey."
"Really? From what I was told, Huey, Louie, and you are triplets. Well, that's what my father told me."
"No. That's not even possible."
"If you say so." She yawned before stretching back out on the grass.
If that was true, that meant that not only he had secret brothers, but that his mom, his only steady companion and only family that he knew of, had lied to him for his entire life.
Just knowing that she lied made made him the most angry, the most upset, and the most alone he had ever felt in his entire life.
And that scared him.
