I wake up to the blaring sound of my alarm beeping and beeping right next to my ear, a loud, shrill sound that I'll never get used to for as long as I live. I had set it the night before to wake me up at seven in the morning and was already regretting it, even though it was set so we could get an early start to the morning before we left for L.A. Even though it's only a two hour drive at least, we wanted to do a little sightseeing along the way in Irvine and Long Beach as well as the cities in between. Since we were mainly gonna be driving along the coast, we had to make time to stretch our legs along the way because our bones tend to cramp up very easily. Mom blames it on grandpa while dad blames it on the lack of milk in the house. We all had our reasons.
I rub the sleepiness out of my eyes and put my glasses on. I can already smell potatoes cooking in a pan downstairs and decide that if anything is going to get me up this morning, it's my love for cooked diced potatoes for breakfast. I hit the alarm button to turn off the annoying beeping sound and sluggishly pull myself out of bed and jump into the shower to wake myself up with the nice, warm water and a fresh face. I put on my makeup and get dressed before combing out my wet hair and putting it into a loose side braid. I change into my favorite pair of jeans and slip on a pair of hightops that are a little beat up but loved nonetheless. I throw on a blue and white plaid button down blouse and head downstairs now fresh and ready for the day.
I head straight into the kitchen and I'm met immediately with the delicious smell of eggs and potatoes and my stomach growls, louder than I thought possible. I take in a deep breath of it and it puts me into an even better mood this morning.
"Morning, Audry." mom greets me with a smile. She's pouring the food onto four plates while dad gets cups from the cupboard and fills them with milk and orange juice.
"Morning, sweet pea!" dad greets me as well.
"Morning. So what's the plan for this morning?" I ask.
"Simple. Eat, pack and drive. The american dream." Cameron inserts. She's already sitting at the table chowing down on a granola bar and a banana fully dressed and makeup perfected. I sit down across from her and mom sets a plate in front of me and kisses me on the head. "Bon appétit." she says.
"I don't think that's exactly the american dream but we'll go with it for now." I say to Cameron. She winks at me as if to say that's the exact response she was looking for. Mom and dad sit down at the table with us and say grace before starting on their own food.
"So what's first after eating, darling?" my mother says happily.
"Well, Cameron pretty much hit the nail on the head." my dad replies. "After breakfast, you girls will help bring the bags and things downstairs while I fill up the car with gas and make sure there's enough room in the trunk for everything."
"I also have to pack the snacks." mom reminds herself.
"Can't we just stop and eat when we get hungry?" I ask. "It wouldn't take that long."
