The next day I sit underneath one of trees by the lake, reading a book I brought with me that I save for emergencies when I don't feel like going anywhere or doing anything specific and just feel like reading something that isn't a magazine. The weather is nice yet warm today and with the slight breeze blowing and the shade above me, I feel like I've found the perfect reading spot ever. I listen to the sounds of the other campers talking and walking around, a few of them getting ready to scuba dive on the other side of the lake and I listen to the water move gently, making me feel more relaxed than ever. I'm almost afraid I might end up falling asleep so I focus a little harder on the book to hopefully diminish the chance of that happening as much as I can. I finish a couple of chapter in the time that I've been sitting out here and I'm about to start another one when I hear someone call my name, or rather, my very distict nickname that only person ever calls me.
"Nerd girl!" I turn and see Jace walking towards me, glancing at the lake before turning back to me and I feel a blush rising up. I shift under the tree to make room for him to sit down next to me and close my book after slipping a bookmark into the page. He sits down and kisses me before taking the book from my hands to read the back of it.
"You're at summer camp with an arcade and rock-climbing and you're reading instead?" He asks.
"It's how I roll," I shrug. "Plus, why play a game or rock-climb when I can read and go to a completely different planet and battle monsters, aliens and find a magical lost ring or something like that?"
"Not going to lie, it's a valid argument," Jace replies nodding his head a little. He hands the book back to me and leans back against the trunk and I do the same.
"Any reason why you decided to annoy me?" I ask him.
"Because it's fun?" He answers like a question. "You're just overall fun to annoy and it brings me joy to see you annoyed." I elbow him in the side only to receive a laugh from him.
"Can I ask you something?" I say.
"Yeah, of course," he replies. I think over how to word my question in a way that doesn't sound so stupid but I give up since there really isn't a way to ask it without sounding a little weird. "Do you think I have a wild side?" I wait for Jace to answer as he thinks for a moment before answering.
"I mean, not really," he says. "You're full of surprises though."
"That's not the same thing," I shake my head. "You really don't think I have just a little bit of a wild side?"
"Where's this coming from exactly?" He asks.
"Nowhere, really." I get a pointed look from Jace and I roll my eyes. "It's just that the girls seem to think I have one but Cameron and Trish aren't so convinced. They tease me about it and it just has me wondering if more than three people think I'm a little crazy."
"What's the big deal if you have a wild side or not?" He asks simply. "Not everyone has one, at least not to the point of maybe getting into serious trouble for it. You're sarcastic and stubborn but I like you the way you are."
