I'm walking back towards where I left Cameron waiting by the big tree that stands in the middle of an intersection of paths when I hear someone say psst! very loudly and glance over to my right at one of the trees. Trish, Amber, Cameron and I all wanted to take a short walk through the forest and maybe go swimming in the small lake since the big one is currently occupied by kids taking canoes and boats out to go fishing and joy riding. I had forgotten my jacket in the cabin so I rushed back to get it and I slip it on as I walk over towards the tree that psst me. In my head I'm thinking it's maybe a talking squirrel or a half man half goat carrying mail and packages so I approach cautiously. I see a head peek out around the edge of the tree and almost have a heart attack.

"Kris?" I ask. She bats her hand at me to tell me to keep quiet and motions me over.

"I need you to tell Pat something, over by the lake," she whispers to me. She looks over her shoulder before turning back to me and I can't help but glance behind me too.

"Why don't you tell her whatever it is yourself?" I ask. "And why are you hiding behind a tree?"

"Just tell her will you?" She huffs. "Tell her the fire is hot. The fire. Is. Hot. Got it?" She punctuates every word like I'm a five year old who doesn't understand English.

"And in recent news," I say in an announcer voice, "Rain is wet and the sky is blue."

"Oh, shut up," Kris snaps. "Will you tell her? She's sitting on the dock by the outhouses."

"Fine, I'll tell her. Whatever it's supposed to mean. And you still haven't answered my other question." I point out.

"I might've stolen Peyton's cell phone," she admits.

"You didn't."

"Just go." Kris makes a move to duck behind the tree again but she stops before turning back to me. "Oh, and if anyone asks, I'm playing paintball." With that, she disappears behind the tree again and I hear her making her way through some bushes. I roll my eyes at her fading footsteps before I glance over at Cameron and the others. They're still distracted by whatever it is that they're discussing so I decide to make a quick run to the lake to pass the very vague message onto Pat and be back in five minutes. It shouldn't take too long since we're not that far from where Kris said Pat would be so I head back again in search of the dock, trying to figure out what the whole 'fire is hot' thing could possibly mean but I give up since it's not even worth trying to figure out. This is Kris and Pat after all, they don't even make sense so why try deciphering their messages to each other? I walk out of the forest and head down a small pathway leading around the lake. I pass by the arcade and a group of teenagers come rushing towards it in excitement, talking loudly about how they plan on beating each other on various games and I they almost run into me on their way in. I dodge them successfully but I end up bumping into someone's shoulder and I mumble an apology.

"Audry, right?" He asks. I turn and see that I bumped into Kyle of all people. I have a very bad habit of not paying attention and bumping into people that I'm not exactly fond of. Then again, it's not always a bad thing. But this time is just something I'm not in the mood for.
