It was about two in the afternoon when I decided to give my parents a quick call. I was still in my pajama’s but I pretended to be really productive. I told them I was going to eat at a friend’s house and then I’d go to Audrey’s party. They told me how everything was going up there, and it was pretty well. Granddad had gotten some new medication to make the last months easier for him, take pain away and they also reduced tumor growth a little. My grandfather was outstandingly joyful these days. My parents told me he missed me and couldn’t wait for me to come this summer. I couldn’t bear the wait either, to be honest. My grandmother’s hip was doing a little better than it did before, which was also good news. After talking for about 15 minutes, I hung up and hopped into the shower. I wasn’t really excited for the party but I was looking forward to being with Tyler and meeting his family.

I had dressed up and put on make-up. I looked pretty decent, in my opinion and I was happy about that. I wanted to make a good first impression, obviously. Also I didn’t want to look like a total loser next to Zoey and Audrey at the party.

I blow dried my hair and put it in a bun. After that I went downstairs and ate a snack. I grabbed all the stuff  had to take with me and decided to charge my phone a little extra. It was 4:45 so there was quite some time to waste. For once, I didn’t read or watch Netflix, but I laid down on the couch and endlessly browsed trough tumblr and other social media. I also talked to Paige, Scott and Olivia in our group chat. I jumped up –in both shock and excitement- when the bell rang. Tyler smiled at me when I opened the door. I smiled back, happy to see him. We sat in his car and drove to his house. We took a shortcut, driving along the city, instead of through the city. We drove into his street 15 minutes later. It looked awfully familiar to me.

“Is there any chance I’ve been here before?” I asked. I was sure I’d seen this street before, but I really couldn’t recall it. “Uhm, I don’t know, I guess it’s possible, but there aren’t that many people living here.” I nodded. Tyler stopped the car and looked at me. “Okay, so my parents and siblings might act a little weird to tease me, please, please ignore that. My brother’s girlfriend will be there too I think and perhaps my sister’s boyfriend too. Please just don’t mind their stupid jokes or whatever. Okay? Make yourself at home.” He smiled at me, I sighed nervously and nodded.

He entered the house, and so did I. “I’m back!” Tyler yelled at no one in particular, or at least I guess so. We entered the living room. The house was pretty big, but really cozy. On the couch, there were two guys and a girl. There was also a man, supposedly Tyler’s dad, sitting at the kitchen table. “This is my dad, Chris. Dad, this is Jenna.” We shook hands. “Hi, nice to meet you.” I smiled. I felt kind of awkward but well, I was used to that by now. “Very nice indeed, Jenna.” Tyler’s dad smiled at me. He seemed like a nice person. “That’s my brother Zack, his girlfriend Tatum and my youngest brother Jay. Guys, this is Jenna.” I greeted them all and we talked a little. Everyone was so nice. They really felt like a family, I wish I had that feeling in my family.

Two minutes later, Tyler’s mom entered the living room. She introduced herself, her name was Kelly and she also seemed like a really amazing woman. After talking to the family for about 15 minutes, Tyler stood up and walked toward the staircase. “MADISON COME SAY HI!” He shouted up the stairs. ‘wow wait, what? Madison? I think I might remember when I was here before.’ My thoughts raced through my head and I prepared for an awkward moment.  Tyler sat down next to me. “Does Madison play basketball?” I asked. “Uhm yeah, basically everyone here plays, except for me and Tatum. Why?” I softly laughed out loud. “I think Madison and I have practice together every now and then.” Two seconds later, she entered the living room. “Heyy” She said, before seeing me. “wow, wait. This is the Jenna Tyler was talking about? How are you?” we both laughed. “I’m good thanks, how about you?” It was kind of awkward, especially because the rest of the people were kind of sitting there staring, except for Zack and Tatum, who were having a conversation together. “I’m good too, a little shocked. Never expected you to be here. When Tyler said he was going to a party with Jenna, I didn’t expect Jenna to be this Jenna, but I like it!” She sounded genuinely excited and I actually was kind of excited too, I liked Madison. She was definitely one of the more fun people on the team. Mrs. Joseph started making dinner with the help of her husband. Madison asked if Will could also come for dinner. It looked like it was going to be a full table, but I kind of liked that after those lonely days. Tyler gave me a tour through the house.
