"That was the best experience of my life." I said as Debby and I made our way backstage, walking a few feet behind both the Joseph and the Dun family. "Glad to hear, it really was amazing. I had fun." She replied smiling. "And Tyler was definitely smiling to you when he was on top of the crowd." We both laughed a bit and I felt my cheeks turning a bit more blush. "You think so? Thought I was just imagining that.." I said. "Whaat no way. He was definitelt searching for you and smiled when he saw you. Is he bringing you home tonight?" She said, adding a smirk.
"Nope, I have to be home a bit early because of finals and graduation and my flight tomorrow and well, I didn't want to mess up his schedule or whatever. So I drove myself." I said. Debby fake pouted, "oh okay. But wait, isn't your car still at his house then?" Oh shit. She's right. Uhhhm... "Don't worry it's probably not that 'shit', if you know what I mean... He has to bring you there now. Or at least that seems most logical." Debby was still smirking and spoke fast and excited. I hadn't even realized I'd said 'shit' out loud, but Debby was right. This might not turn out as bad as I think. Apparently, we'd arrived backstage, since Debby was telling me to shut up and act natural. "And remove that smile from your face, Jen. Or actually don't. It works this way."
"Heyhey!" Josh yelled as everyone walked in. Everyone greeted each other, and after a bit Tyler and Josh left to take a quick shower. We all drank and ate something, and within minutes Tyler and Josh returned. Tyler came up to me and hugged me, "so, did you have fun?" He asked, his right arm still around me. "This was the best night I had in a while, if not ever. Thank you so much." I smiled. He smiled back, "I'm glad to hear. It was a great show to play." He pulled me closer with his right arm for a second, squeezing my shoulder, and immediately I felt goosebumps rise on my skin. I smiled at Tyler, then my body decided it was necessary to shiver and yawn. Tyler let go of me and walked over to the couch, grabbing a black hoodie which was on the couch. "Here, take this." He said, handing me the hoodie with a cute smile on his face. "Thanks." I said softly. It was a hoodie with the band logo on it, and it smelled like Tylers deodorant, mixed with a hint of sweat. I almost said –out loud- how good I thought it smelled, but thankfully, I was able stop myself and said that I liked the hoodie. It was in fact a cool hoodie, with the band logo on it and three stripes, a blue, red and white one.
Everyone sat in the lounge next to the dressing room and talked about how great the show was. Tyler and Josh their faces were radiating with joy, which was really nice to see. After about thirty minutes, Josh suggested going outside to meet some of the fans. I looked at my phone and realized it was already close to 1 AM. “Guys, I think I’m heading home then. Thank you so much, I really had an amazing time.” I said. Debby immediately responded by asking if She had to bring me to Tyler’s house, since my car was still there. “No, let me bring her there, she was my guest and it’s not that long of a drive anyways.” Tyler responded. I smiled on the inside. “Don’t fight over Jenna, guys!” Tyler’s dad joked, and Tyler shot a mad, yet loving look at him. “Josh, can I borrow your car?” He asked. “Uh, as long as you don’t crash it… and keep it clean okay?” he said chuckling as he passed Tyler the keys. “You’re okay with me bringing you home right?” He asked softly. “yeah, off course.” I smiled and as I looked up at Debby she gave me an extravagant wink and thumbs up. I chuckled and nodded my head, looking down, half embarrassed, half unable to control my laughing. And I was also kinda nervous now. Debby mouthed me a “text me” and then gave me an encouraging smile, after making a kissy face, of which I wasn’t sure it indicated her saying bye or her teasing me. It made me smile anyway, and with that, Tyler and I sneaked out to the parking lot where Josh’s car was parked.
After letting me in the car, he went to the other side and got in too. After putting the key in the contact, he secured his seatbelt and turned on the radio quietly. He looked over at me and smiled. “Ready?” He asked. “Yeah.” I didn’t know why we were talking so soft, because it wasn’t like anyone was sleeping or something, but we continued speaking softly anyways. Not quite whispering, just silently talking.
“I hadn’t heard that one song before, uhm Addict with a Pen.” I said, starting the conversation. “Oh yeah, that’s from the old self titled album, from before when Josh was in the band. Did… did you like it?” He said. “Like it? It was wonderful. I nearly broke down crying… It was so beautiful. I was planning on listening to the album on the plane tomorrow.” Tyler chuckled and then tensed up a bit. “It’s a really special song to me… helped me a lot. I guess.” A short silence fell, which I decided to break. “I could.. hear that, I guess. Your emotion. It felt really overwhelming and I loved it so much. The lyrics, piano, you, uhm I mean your voice…” shit shit shit, nice cover up, Jen. Thank goodness it was dark in the car because I could basically feel my face explode in shame. “Oh Jen, come on, we all know you love me.” Tyler said sarcastically. Chuckling, he said, “but I am gonna miss you when you’re in Seattle and I’ll be in LA. A lot.” Keeping my eyes on the road (aka avoiding Tyler’s eyes, which should also be fixed on the road, but looked away for a second every now and then) I said: “I’m going to miss you too. But I mean, while you’re in LA there’s probably not gonna be a lot of time to miss me. Or if there is you can probably use it to do more productive things or, well I don’t even know.” Great job at making things less awkward, Jenna. Great job.
After another 5 minutes of scolding myself for being this awkward, we arrived at Tyler’s house. We both got out of the car, even though Tyler didn’t really have to, nor had the time. “Uhm do you have everything, or is there still stuff inside?” He asked. “I think everything is in my bag. Oh, uh, here’s your jacket.” I said, taking off the jacket. “won’t you be cold?” He said, putting his hand on my back, which stopped me taking it off. “don’t know. The drive isn’t that long, I guess.” Tyler took the zipper of the hoodie and zipped it back up. “Keep it, for now at least. I don’t want you to get cold. And it looks cute on you.” He pulled me in for a hug, which I gladly accepted and returned. He pulled back, looking me into my eyes. “Goodnight, Jenna. I’m so happy you came to the show tonight.” I could see him smile, bright eyes, crooked teeth. –thank you porch-light, thank you so much- “Thanks for inviting me.” I smiled back. We both let go of each other, which felt kind of empty. I walked to my car, he walked to his, but didn’t enter before whisper-yelling a “see you tomorrow, good luck in school!”
