The ride was bumpy, and long. Ava sat curled up in the corner trying to escape the prying eyes of the soldiers in black peering in through the holes. Her wing felt sore again. 'He was right...' she thought to herself, sinking to her knees.
-----
The car finally stopped and she was picked up and carried off. But before she had a chance to see where, a blanket was draped over the cage. She couldn't see a thing. The heavy sounds of footsteps echoed within a hallway. Ava was scared stiff.
The voice of an excited man neared. "Oh my goodness! Is this it?!"
"Yes sir, subject unharmed."
"That's great! lets have a look!"
The crate was handed off, and Ava started to feel sick again, but this time it was fear kicking her in the stomach. The crate was set down on a table and the blanket, removed. All she could make out was a pale white room. She gulped and closed the space between her and the back wall. Peering in, was the face of a man.
The mans face had a faint scare across it. "She is beautiful!" He said proudly. But as his hand entered the enclosure, Ava darted to the left, it followed, then to the right, he was quick as well. "feisty little one, isn't she?" He chuckled as his hand grabbed her. He was not gentle at all, not like Jordan had been. It was like the clutches of an eagle. Ava struggled harder to release his hold. This hand would not budge. It became fairly bright with all kinds of tech. A bright spot light shown onto a table were certain tools lay neatly in the center of the room. Panicked, she recalled the experience at Jordan's. Many sharp things that seemed she did not want to get closer to.
Bringing Ava up to his face, he examined her closely. Using his free hand, he check around her ears, wings and other places...
"Put me down!" Ava spat.
He just smiled. "Oh, don't worry lass, there will be plenty of time for that."
When he finished his rather forceful examination we gestured to another man dressed in a white lab coat.
"Lets go ahead and snip those wings, since we know there in good working order."
"Yes sir." The man handed the scientist a pair of sharp silver scissors. One look at the sharp object, and Ava's eyes widened, struggling to escape! "Oh no you don't!" She muttered as the man handed him the sheers. when nothing seemed to be working, Ava bit down hard on the gloved hand of the scientist. He yelped and almost dropped her. 'GOOD, let me fall!!!' She thought. 'Anything, besides those scissors!!'
The assistants hands reached out as well, ready to Ava incase she broke free. The scientist regathered his grip. Tighter than before, he put the scissors down and put a finger under her chin, holding it shut.
"We might have to sedate this one." He said surprised. "It been a while since I've dealt with one quite THIS wild before." He added.
The assistant nodded and prepared a sedative. The scientist brought me to the center table. The assistant inserted the needle into Ava's thigh. She bit her tongue, and winced in pain.
"There we go now." The scientist said calmly. "now we can see about those wings."
Once the assistant was done, her body went limp. Not asleep, just paralyzed all over. She couldn't tell if his grip was loosening or if it was the sedative kicking in. Laying her down, All she could see was the blinding light above her, which silhouetted the humans around her. The scientists spread each wing out stroking the tips of her feathers, "Those are some beautiful ventral's." He commented to himself.
A numbed sensation vibrated through her whole body. One by one, he began cutting the ends of her wings. Ava was terrified of not being able to fly away from these awful humans. "
"That should keep ya down for a while." He smiled.
Ava glared in a detest.
"Aw, don't worry little lass, they'll grow back in time."
Her chance of escape just got a lot harder. What good was a downed Avian?
"I think well call it day for this little one." He said to his assistant.
"Yes Doc. Howard." He replied.
With that, the assistant went to one side of the wall, where several small glass holding cells were located. He opened one with the swipe of a card around his neck and came back to fetch Ava. Gently lifting her limp body, he placed her inside and closed the door.
'Could this get any worse?' Ava thought.
