"Ava, are you sure you want to trust this guy?" Jordan asked.
She huffed, looking into Peters eyes, searching for answers.
"Look" he said, "I never told you, but the US military will do anything to get their hands on your kind so they can use you in battle.... Selected solders will be partnered with an Avian to aid them and serve them.... " He paused. "I was lucky enough to be the first in this position. To be paired with you, and to find out..... that... they are wrong." His eyes were sincere as he looked at Ava shamefully. "Ava, I don't want to control you, you are more than an animal those people see you as,... you were meant to be free."
Ava didn't know how to respond. His words didn't soak in all the way.
"So then how can you help us?" Jordan asked.
"Solders are waiting for you at your house." Peter replied. "You cant go back there... Every surveillance camera in the city will be looking for you."
Jordan looked worried. "Fine! But im keeping this!" He insisted, raising the gun and tucking it in his jeans.
"Listen, you are going to need my help if you want to make it through the city." Peter insisted.
Ava flinched as Peter slowly sat up. Jordan reacted with caution too. Peter put a hand up towards Jordan. "Its alright." He clarified. Ava stepped back and slid down onto the grass, and flew up onto Jordan's shoulder.
"Well, we need to keep moving." Said Jordan, Grabbing Peter by his jacket and yanking him up.
Peter was almost the same height as Jordan. But they seemed equal in strength.
"Jordan" Ava whispered into his ear.
"What is it, Ava?" He asked curiously.
She hesitated for a moment. "Please wait here.... I need to see about something."
Jordan seemed confused and a bit worried. But he nodded and waited with Peter, who seemed equally concerned.
"I will be right back." She reassured them.
"Kanza?", she called as she flew back into the tree line. gracefully, she flew out in front of her cautiously.
"Kanza,... please come with me. We are going to find my tribe. I want you to come with us."
She looked out passed her towards Jordan and Peter. "You mean... with those humans?" She asked worriedly.
"Don't worry, Kanza. They wont hurt you, I promise."
"Ava, I don't trust them."
"Trust me." Ava reassured her. Reaching out, and taking her hand. "Kanza, I need Jordan's help to find my tribe. But I cant leave you here alone. You belong with us."
Kanza sighed, and glanced over towards the two humans nervously.
"Its okay, I will introduce you."
Kanza was quiet, "Okay then."
