I open the letter, smiling, walking out of the exams,

'Hey Wens. I love hearing that you've made so many friends! This Stan boy seems very nice! Invite him over someday, I'd love to meet him during the summer! I'm sure your father would love meeting him too, as we will most certainly meet up with Kyle again this summer. You have made a lot of boy friends, it's very nice to see that. It wasn't normal back when we went to Hogwarts, everyone assumed me and your uncle were dating! I have told you a million time how your uncle was my best friend throughout Hogwarts. Then I met your father and I have to say, couldn't have married a better man, not in any way.
You asked me how I was doing. Well, I'm certain I could say anything but the main thing is, I will live at home now! Yes, I can come home. Admittedly, I don't have the energy to move around, but at least I don't have to stare at the same white wall for 11 months a year. It's rather nice.
Good luck with your tests. Even if I'm sure you have no problem with them, you're such a smart girl, Wendy. I'm INCREDIBLY proud of you.
Mum and dad (even if he didn't bother to write anything).'

"What are you reading?" Some older Gryffindor asks, taking it from me.

"Give it back, now," I say.

"Sh, Snake girl," he says.

I try to grab it but he's reading it out loud.

"It's nothing really embarrassing," I say.

"Aw. Is your mum going through the side effects of the darkness in her heart?" He asks.

"My mum is awesome, letting you know," I say.

"What? Can't hear you over the evil in your voice," he says.

"Dude, I'm first year. Are you really going to bully someone that has been here like 3 years less than you?" I ask.

"What are you going to do, blood-purist?" He asks.

"Assure you that my best friend is a muggle born. I am not a blood purist, unlike you, who are basically calling me out for wearing a different colour, there is some sort of thing here," I say.

He literally pushes me.

"Really dude? Really?" I ask.

"Get off her, will you?" Stan asks.

"What are you gonna do, Hufflepuff?" The Gryffindor asks.

Stan rolls his eyes.

"You don't probably wanna find out," Stan says.

The Gryffindor starts laughing.

"Leave my friends the fuck alone," Kyle says.

He walks out of the group, pointing his wand at the older Gryffindor.

"Have a nice day, cousin," Kyle says.

I just casually take the letter, spit on the Gryffindor and roll my eyes.

"You don't need to come to my aid, I'm not a damsel in distress. I can figure my own shit out," I say.

Kyle laughs.

"It doesn't really matter if you're a girl or a boy or whatever, I want to help," Kyle says.

I laugh.

"He wasn't ever good at insulting me but thanks I guess," I say.

We go through the group until Kyle sees a clock, panics and runs into the classroom I just came out of. Stan and I laugh at this for about three minutes before he asks something,

"Who is the letter from?"

I smile.

"My mum. She's been too ill to write as of last June. So nurses would read her the letters, let her answer and write it down for her, sending it. But I, myself, could tell it was a healer. However, this is my mum's handwriting and she's saying she's going to get to life at home. I just.... i have never been as happy about something like this. She's actually coming home, meaning she isn't as reliant on the healers as she was when I left for Hogwarts. Maybe there is a small chance she's going to actually survive," I say.

He hugs me.

"That's so awesome! Wendy, I couldn't be happier for you. Wish your mum the best from me when you go home!" Stan says.

"She wants to meet you, a lot. Like, a lot a lot. That's actually the start of the letter," I say.

"She wants to meet me? What? Why? Why would anyone want to meet me?" Stan asks.

"Because you're funny, and kind, and I honestly think you might be really damn awesome. I've told my mum a lot about you, she's really excited to meet you, Stan. Would you meet her? Like, come over for the summer, at least a while. I'm sure she'd absolutely adore meeting you," I say.

"Aw. Of course I will. But if I do, I really have to do it looking like a mum," Stan says.

"Why?" I ask.

"Don't ask me, my dad has given me the gene of randomness," Stan says.

"That's not what a gene is," I say.

"We're both really damn random, it's funny how mum would give up on us when we started talking about the weirdest shit. But I think what I meant by that idea is that.... actually. Not telling you anything," Stan says.

"No, tell me. I'm scared for my family's safety because of you," I say.

"No no. It's just... I just realised how weird my family life actually is," Stan says.

He shrugs.

"Well... eh... at least I haven't come to my father quite as much as everyone thinks," he says.

"Is that a good or bad thing?" I ask.

"Neutral," he says.

He smiles, clearly not wanting to get the mood too low.

"I'll tell you about it when I'm okay ready... I promise," he says.

I nod.

"I'm fine with that," I say.

He smiles at me.

"But hey. I have a second exam to catch. Talk to you later, Wend?" He asks.

"See you, Stan," I say.

He runs towards the Defence against the dark arts classroom while I continue to stand there. Then I decide to go to the owl tower to send a response.
