Chapter 12
I shifted slightly on my perch in the tree and looked down on the people gathered around in the woods. I've been in this spot for a full thirty minutes now and it was really getting uncomfortable and I was getting hunger, very hungry. The one positive I could see coming from this situation was the fact that I wouldn't be falling asleep soon.
I couldn't tell who the leader of the pack attacking us was but I could tell that they were planning on attacking common grounds as soon as they found it. That's one advantage we have right now.
They don't know where my people went.
Honestly, I already got all the information I needed. I might not know the number of people here but one thing was for sure, they definitely had enough to take on common grounds. The only thing I still needed to do was get out of enemy territory. That's difficult seeing as they were all shifters, meaning they also have a keen sense of hearing and would pick up on the sound of my moving body.
It was already a surprise they hadn't heard me when I shifted into my human form to get up into the tree. I was just waiting for them to go to sleep so there might be a slight chance of me escaping without them hearing me.
The problem is, these guys are like damned owls. They just won't go to sleep!
Not only that, but I've been feeling this push in my mind for the past hour now. Probably from Zane, since the pack must have reported to common grounds. If I have my calculations correct, they should be another three days while I'd been five days away, maybe a week.
I slowly leaned a little forwards again and did the routine of searching over the people closest to me in the woods. If they were asleep, I could at least move around on the ground enough and make a run for it. If luck was at my side, I'd get out of her unnoticed.
I was mildly surprised when I found every last one of them finally asleep and took a deep breath. I closed my eyes and let myself drop from the branch I'd been sitting on for an hour now and landed on the balls of my feet, letting the impact vibrate through me. When I felt secure, I opened my eyes and was relieved when they were all still horizontally spread across the ground. I snorted lightly at the sight of the blankest and mattresses they were on and rolled my eyes in amusement.
The big bad attacking pack was sleeping on mattresses in the woods.
Clearly they're not as bad s they pretend to be or they'd do it my way. Just sleep on the ground.
I was just about to take another step away from the group when the one guy I'd thought was asleep, came around the tree and stopped just as fast as I did, frozen in place.
We stared at each other for a full minute before a wicked grin formed on his face.
"Everyone, wake the hell up!"
I wanted to run, I really did but I was frozen in shock as the idiot kept a keen eye trained on my frozen figure. I watched in horror as everyone jumped up, ready for attack and even more gathered from the woods. I could tell it wasn't everyone but it was enough to get fear pumping in my system.
"Looks like we have an intruder and guess who it is?" He asked.
That's when my fear turned to livid rage but I couldn't attack.
"Didn't we kill her grandmother a few years ago?"
A low growl ripped from my throat and instantly I was wrapped in wicked arms as someone kept me restrained.
"It looks like she came to find us."
I saw a glint in the guy's eyes that sent shivers over my entire body but I kept my eyes trained on every single one of them. This was really bad.
