Chapter 10

I stayed in the woods for almost the entire day, playing in a stream and even chasing random animals but all I ate was a young doe in the morning. Which managed to fill me up for the entire day. I literally dragged myself into the cottage late that night and forced myself to get dressed in a night dress. I slipped under the black silk covers of the bed once I was dressed.

Maybe I'll leave again tomorrow? It's not like anyone really wants me here and I think it might cause Tiffany to throw a party. One think is for sure, the person who'd probably be the happiest was Zane.

He was starting to actually feel the claim his wolf wanted to have over me.

I didn't want to be claimed though. I want to be loved, adored and not criticized for what I used to be and what I am now. No matter how much I wanted to be normal, I knew I would always be different. That's even more reason for me to want to leave. If I'm on my own, there's no one to control me or tell me what I should do. I want to be free again but for now, I just needed some sleep.

My eyes were just closing when there was a light patter of feet at the door. Then a light tapping of little knuckles knocking on the wooden door. I didn't even need to smell the scent to know that it was Jake at the door. Suddenly my fatigue disappeared. I did take a taste of the scent when I sat up and caught the taste of the woods and cologne in the air. Michael came down with his son.

"Jake, let's go. She seems to be asleep." Michael whispered.

Just as I was about to answer, the door opened and Jake stood there grinning broadly with is hand firmly on the door handle.

"See daddy, she's still awake." Jake said.

Barely a second passed before he was running to my side and throwing himself onto the bed, leaping into my arms. It took me a moment to register what was going on.

"Jake, how many times do I have to tell you not to just open a door?" Michael sighed in defeat.

Shaking his head, he met my eyes.

"I'm sorry about that. Jake still needs to be taught about manners."

I chuckled lightly and gestured for him to enter.

He did and closed the door behind him, looking a little bothered by the closed door. Before I could asked him what the problem was, he shook his head and turned to smile at me.

"You did well today."

His words made me smile. I couldn't help feeling a little flattered that someone like him would say that to me. He was the only one who had the power to intimidate me and not once did he try to dominate me, not like everyone else has. It was just Belle who still treated me like the girl who showed up here that first day so long again, and I loved her for it.

"Thank you. Why don't you take a seat on the bed?"

I smiled when his face looked a little pale. I finally realized why he looked uncomfortable after closing the door.

"Michael, just relax and take a seat with your son and me."

With a slight sigh, he agreed and took a seat at my feet. Jake perched himself firmly on my lap and placed his head against my shoulder.

"Why did you want to come see me?" I muttered.

I watched as Jake's brown eyes slowly drew shut.

"Jake wanted to come and visit but it seems he just wanted someone to cuddle up to. Since he met you, I'm not important enough anymore."

I chuckled lightly at his teasing words and rolled my eyes. I slowly ran my hand through Jake's short black hair, my heart softening even more.
