Chapter 22

The pause in the battle lasted a few seconds, though it felt like hours.

My entire body slowly started vibrating with energy.

My eyes burned.

My skin burned.

The moonlight bounced off my black fur, turning it a incandescent white that sparkled with every touch of the light. All my covers were gone. There was no more sorrow, no more weaknesses and no more pain. Even my injuries became muted from the intense feeling of freedom that swooped down and swallowed me whole.

My howl lasted for two minutes. I lowered my head and opened my eyes, feeling them burn a bright vibrant red as my gaze travelled over every one of the shifters and vamps in front of me.

The staring only stopped when the leader let out a snarl.

His men started attacking again but my people seemed to be motivated. There was an uproar of fierce growls that ripped through the night and the werewolves were the ones dropping down dead. The vampires made their way through the battle and stood guard over the injured men that could no longer fight, keeping the werewolves from bringing more death to my people.

My gaze shifted for only a second, seeing Seth standing off to the side. He was defending Adrian and Zane, who were both down for the count. They looked exhausted but still willing to fight, but they were severely beaten up and I couldn't blame them for sitting it out.

I growled and shook our my new white fur, focusing my gaze on the leader of the werewolves. The man who caused me to lose everything I held dear.

I took off.

Ripping through the battlefield like a bullet, I took out any werewolf in my sight.

It was easy now. With the speed I had, I just had to scrape my nails at their throats in passing and left them dead on the ground behind me. My feet were travelling at an unbelievable speed until I reached the man I was looking for.

He didn't have time to react before I shoved into him hard enough for him to shoot backwards into the woods. He took one glance at me before he was running off.

I was a blur following at his heels.

We didn't stop running until the sound of the battle, the howls and whines, were muted far in the distance. He stopped and exploded into his fully changed wolf. He stood at double my size with pitch black eyes focused on me, his fangs exposed. His growls were daring, warning me of danger and death. I retaliated by lowering my upper body, preparing myself for the hunt.

It was the hunt I'd wanted, the one eye waited for since my family died. This was what I was waiting for, what I was dreaming about and hoping for and it was finally here.

The chance to take down the man who almost destroyed me.

We stood there challenging each other with hateful glares until I heard a branch snap a few feet away. My gaze wavered for only a second but that was long enough for him to make his move.

He came at me at lightning speed.

I didn't have time to defend myself. I hit a tree, feeling something in my back shift but ignored it. The tree broke and tipped over from the impact. I pushed to my paws just in time to feel his teeth sink into my neck. I was thrown aside again, like a rag doll.

He was too fast for me to avoid his attacks. He threw me, bit me and acted like I was nothing more than a play thing, taunting me.

There was blood streaming from my face, where his nails had dug in and I had a few more wounds all over the back of my neck and my hind legs. It took a few more seconds of him shaking my body around before my natural instincts kicked in. The moment my body dropped to the ground, I was on my feet and running at him.
