Chapter 15

The man led us through a dark hallway where doors were opened and faces were filling the hall. More vampires were trying to see what we looked like and probably wondering what we were doing here. It wasn't difficult to see that they clearly didn't want us here but there was nothing I could do about that at this moment. There were a lot of whispers and a few people actually followed us into the hallway. Everyone stopped as soon as we reached a huge black door in the farthest corner.

Even Mr. Muscle Man seemed a little nervous when he lifted his hand and hit his knuckles against the wood. The sound seemed to echo eerily through the hallway before the man stepped back and the door slowly opened. It revealed a young woman with blood red eyes.

I would have been scared if I didn't know my eyes would turn that colour if I was really angry. I'd seen it before when I went hunting once. It scared me then but now it was just another difference between me and my kind.

"Right, this is where I leave you. You will enter on your own but I will be out here waiting to escort you out as soon as you're done with your business." The man stated.

He moved his gaze only slightly to glance at us before meeting the woman's eyes again.

"Alison, these two would like a word with his majesty. They are part of the shifters who have gathered in the building on common grounds."

His words were barely out when the woman's lips pulled up into a mocking grin. Her eyes took me in like I was just a piece of dirt on her doorstep.

"So they're part of the cowering pups? What a delight?"

I narrowed my eyes on her as my anger spiked but I refrained from snapping at her. She assessed my behaviour then scowled when neither Michael nor I attacked.

"Well, that was no fun at all. Fine, you may enter but Seth is not in the best of moods so I suggest you step lightly."

What the hell was that supposed to mean?

She stepped aside and gestured for us to enter before she slammed the door shut. She was still trying to scare us but by now I was just struggling to keep control of my instincts and not ear into her. I shook my head and felt Michael's hand close over mine.

We both took a look at our surroundings.

Like the rest of the castle, this room was also a soot black and there was a fire going in the fireplace to my left. The drapes were blood red and stopped the sun from entering, even though it was clear this woman and Seth were as old as the castle.

I mean, their portraits were up against the wall for goodness sake.

By the look of it, they were brother and sister. Both were equally handsome even though half of the people in this building weren't remotely as beautiful as you would expect from their kind.

Turns out, you have to be beautiful before they change you or you'll be eternally ugly... poor things.

In the portrait the woman looked just as young as she was now. She looked around twenty six years of age. If I wasn't mistaken, so did the guy in the picture. They both had blonde hair and crystal blue eyes in the portraits but clearly their eye colour had changed over the past hundreds of years. All in all, they were both abnormally gorgeous even before they turned vamp.

That wasn't going to blind me from the task at hand.

Pulling my gaze from the portraits, I took in the rest of the dark room with my enhanced sight, feeling them turn into those of a wolf. I could see a desk in front of me with two chairs on the one side and a single one on the other. It was clear that someone was seated there.
