Chapter 9

No one really spoke to me for the next week except for Belle. It was mostly because she wanted to know what food I'd like and if I needed clothes, seeing as my old ones are a little small now.

I apparently appeared to be taller than before, even though I wasn't. Probably because of the fact that I wasn't as thin and frail this time and I wasn't scared to come out of my cottage either.

Every member of the pack stared at me wherever I went, with whispers of how beautiful I've gotten and what kind of steroid I much have taken to look like I did now, following me. They're so fascinated by the ideas that they probably didn't even know I could hear hem perfectly clear.

The only time Adrian spoke to me was the day before my grandmother's service, to ask if I wanted to say a few words about my grandmother. He also told me that it was being held in the woods, where everyone would be showing up in their wolf forms.

I didn't mind that at all. I already placed a large cloak in the pouch Malcolm had given me and then waited the night out. I couldn't sleep that night and it was hell for me but I didn't let it show.

It was around five thirty the next morning when everyone started getting up and ready for the service in the woods.

I only went into the pack house when I heard everyone take their seat at the dining table for breakfast. Even so, the moment I stepped in a deep silence fell and everyone turned to stare at me, including Jake and his father, Michael.

I haven't officially met him before but I did manage to catch snippets of conversations of him.

Apparently his wife was killed about two years earlier, leaving him with the responsibility to raise little Jake and now every female of his pack was after him. He came down here to attend my grandmother's funeral and to be with her for the little while before she passed.

That already told me enough to know that he apparently knew my parents as well.

His dark eyes were fixated on me as I walked to the empty seat at the far side of the table, where a plate was placed in front of me at once.

"I thought you preferred hunting?" Bell asked with a tiny smile.

She also took her seat at the large table.

I felt a little uncomfortable with the entire set up and that's without the fact that Zane was staring at dreamily at me while Tiffany was scowling.

How was I supposed to know how to react too my mate? Who clearly was not able to resist the pull I'd been fighting since I left the territory eight months ago.

Of course, I did have a lot on my mind. Since my parents deaths and then my mate denying my presence. Then taking off on my own, starting to try and take care of myself and finally returning just in time to see my last known family member dying.

I didn't want the drama to stop. I didn't want to end up staring at Zane like that and completely giving it away.

"I do prefer hunting but I don't see why I had to do it this morning. I'll go find something to eat once the service is done." I stated.

Jake got up and took his plate with him.

I frowned for only a second before getting a tender smile on my face.

He walked over to me and placed his plate beside me and took a seat. The entire time, his father was staring at him as though he'd lost his mind. Finally, his father just gave me a slight smile, showing off his dimples, before continuing with his meal.
