It was exactly four hours later that I asked my grandmother for the address of her now home.

How my phone battery managed to last that long will probably remain a mystery.

I followed her directions to the large mansion that was located at the very edge of the woods in the small town I haven't seen in two years. It was funny to think that I've only ever seen the inside of my grandmother's house throughout my entire childhood. I guess now I understand why my parents and I were never allowed to walk around in the town.

My father had left his family to be with my mother and it was a crime to the pack.

Apparently they didn't really care about me that much, since I'm allowed to come here now. Or it was because they still assume I am human.

As soon as I got out of my car, the front door was thrown open. My grandmother wanted to make a run for me but a large middle aged male took hold of her shoulder as soon as he saw me. He held her in place. I pinned him as the Alpha. It didn't take long for my grandmother to notice what the Alpha had seen at first glance.

I was thin... thinner than I'd ever been before because of my lack of appetite after my father passed away. Even my skin had turned a sickly white and looked like a glove pulled over my skeleton. I knew I looked horrid. What probably threw my grandmother the most was the emptiness in my eyes. Even though I knew I should feel relieved or happy to see her, I just couldn't muster up any emotion. Even when I lifted one corner of my lips into a tight smile. I must look like a homeless child or something while my grandmother looked like a thirty eight year old super model.

She hadn't seemed to have aged. Her pale blue eyes were filled with horror as she stared at me like I was some kind of stranger. She still had a rocking body and her hair was still a flowing brown mass.

A thick silence settled over the three of us.

My grandmother stumbled down the steps and stopped right in front of me.

It was only then that I realized that I had grown a few inches taller than her.

"So, are you still going to beat me to a pulp?" I said in a strained voice.

I was a little shocked when I saw tears gather in her eyes as she ran a hand over my cheek bones.

"What happened to you, baby girl?" She whispered.

I gave a strained laugh before shaking my head and turning to my car. Ignoring the eyes on my back, I pulled out my two bags that seemed to weigh a ton to my exhausted body. I threw them both over my shoulders and turned back to see the shock on my grandmothers face. I guess the heavy bags probably looked odd when it was balanced on my small body. Smiling slightly, I looked up at the man who was still standing at the door with his eyes trained on me.

"Sir, can I please set my bags down and beg for something to eat? I'm sure you can see I haven't eaten much lately and right now, I'm starving."

The man managed a tight smile before nodding and walking down to take the bags from me.

"You may call me Adrian and there's some food on the table. We just finished our Friday family dinner we have every week."

I nodded slowly and followed his lead when he entered the house. I could feel my grandmother's presence behind me. He placed my bags right outside a doorway to our left where I could smell the scent of all kinds of meat filling the house. I missed the moment where my stomach would rumble in protest at the scent of food but that's stopped months ago. The moment I followed Adrian into the dining room, I gasped at how large the place was.
