The rain was pounding against the windows of her apartment, the drops sticking to it like watery syrup. She watched the water pooling on the ledge, dripping all over the place. Jennie sighed as she turned to her phone she was holding, finger scrolling against the screen while she waited for a message. Or anything, really.

There were no emails. There were no messages. No calls. Nothing.

There hasn't been anything for 5 months now.

"We can do this, right?" Lisa asked as she held Jennie close, Jennie's body flush against her. Jennie just stood frozen in place, her lips quivering under the pressure of Lisa's presence.

"Yes," she murmured softly, though she knew that she was already starting to doubt herself.

They were at the Korean Military Airbase and she volunteered to drive Lisa even if she vehemently  refused her offer. She didn't listen of course because even though she's still upset about Lisa being far away from her, she want to be with her for the last time. And now, they are both standing outside her car, tangled in an embrace.

Quite possibly the last one, Jennie's mind said. She shook her head as she wiped the tears that fell on her cheeks, hoping that Lisa wouldn't notice. "Please be careful there, okay?" Lisa wiped her thumb under Jennie's eyes, pressing her lips against Jennie's.

"I will don't worry," Lisa murmured after they pull away, her hands cupped over Jennie's cheeks as she looked at her. "Wait for me, okay? I love you.."

"Okay, I love you too.." she said before giving Lisa a one last kiss.
Lisa smiled and turned around, entering the Air base for her flight bound to the place she was assigned.

Jennie just watched Lisa walked away and disappeared from her sight. She heaved a deep sighed and smiled sadly.

"I hope this will work.."

It's been barely 9 months away from each other when she decided it wasn't working anymore. Lisa was still holding on but--

"Lisa, i don't think this is going to work. All we've been doing lately is fight. Maybe... maybe a long distance relationship isn't just for us."

Lisa looked at her straight into the camera, her eyes cold and her jaw clenched tight. "Why is it easy for you to give up?" she asked, shaking her head at Jennie. "I thought you can fight for us. I did all my best just to communicate with you, right? Okay, I'm gonna try to file a leave again and make it up to you, just please, don't give up on us--" Lisa pleaded.

Jennie averted her gaze, turning to look at her desk. There was an old picture of them together and her heart clenched of the thought that maybe, they weren't meant to be. Distance made sure of that. And Lisa's numerous leave rejections made sure of that. She sighed, glancing at Lisa through her laptop screen.

"I'm sorry, okay? I tried, but..... I really don't think it's working anymore."

"Well, you didn't try hard enough," Lisa said before the screen turned black. Jennie bit her lip but her traitorous tears had other plans.

Maybe she really didn't try hard enough. Maybe she wasn't patient enough. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

Maybe they weren't meant to be.

She scrolls through her phone, wondering what else she could do on this rainy afternoon. Her fingers absentmindedly opened her Instagram application and her breath hitched at the first entry of her feed.

It was her. Lisa. She posted a new photo with a girl beside her, her lips curled into a familiar smile. It used to be her smile. Now, it was somebody else's smile.

Her chest constricted at the thought and she pulled out an old photo from beneath her drawers, the old one where Lisa's smile was as bright as the one beside this new girl

Her chest constricted at the thought and she pulled out an old photo from beneath her drawers, the old one where Lisa's smile was as bright as the one beside this new girl. Jennie knew that Lisa still could've been hers, if only she fought harder. Believe harder. Loved harder.

Unfortunately, she let go even before she even held on to her.
