The black door opened wide as the little 8 year old girl ran into the kitchen and jumped up and down. She's had too much sugar so far and she tends to get a little wild when that happens. Her mother soon followed after and closed the door with her foot. She shook her head once seeing her running around and she soon raised her voice.
"Mahogany!" Her mom called out.
"Yes, mommy?" Her big round eyes looked up.
"Stop all that damn running that you're doing. Can you please calm down?" Her mom huffed.
"Sorry..." She slowly looked down before walking into their cosy little living room to take a seat on the couch.
Mahogany had smooth brown skin and curly hair that stopped at her shoulders. She had that pretty smile that everybody seemed to find cute. She was full of energy and knew how to entertain people. Her mother, Shereen, picked up the bowl of seasoned ribs that was being waited to be cooked. The family were joining the neighbour in Mrs Patrick's front yard. She was throwing a welcome home party for her husband who had returned from China after working there for a year and Shereen kindly offered to help cook. Cooking and baking was something that both Shereen and Mahogany loved doing. It was a mother-daughter thing that they loved doing every weekend.
"Come on, Mahogany. We're leaving." Shereen yelled.
Mahogany sighed, "Maaa, Sonny With A Chance just came on." She pouted before turning off the TV and dragging her feet.
"Quit walkin' like that, you gon' ruin your shoes and you know I ain't got enough money to buy you another pair." Shereen sucked her teeth and watched Mahogany.
The pair left the house and walked across the street to Mrs Patrick's house where everybody was. Loud music was being blasted and many were either dancing or singing along to the music that was being played. Mahogany's eyes lit up once she had seen one of her older brothers, Prince. She charged towards him and he swiftly pulled her into a hug. The two laughed.
"Prince, I didn't see you!" Mahogany giggled.
"I was down at the basketball court with Terrell." Prince said pointing at his basketball.
"Oh...Where is he?" Mahogany asked looking around.
"He isn't here but he did say that he'll stop by with his friends." Prince walked to the food table with Mahogany behind him.
"Oh..." She said looking down.
She turned around and found her friend, Athena running towards her. Once again, her face lit up. If you were to ever meet Mahogany, you'd know that she was the most happiest little girl you'd ever know. She always had a smile on her face no matter what. She was friendly and very likeable.
"Athena." She threw her arms around her best friend.
"Mahogany. Mama got me the Bratz doll." Athena pulled out a Sasha Bratz doll from her pink bag.
"Yay! Now we have the same Doll." Mahogany said grinning.
"Where's your Sasha?" Athena asked playing with its hair.
"At home. Sleeping." Mahogany said.
"Mahogany.".
She turned around was face to face with her father, Idris, "Daddy!" She grinned and giggled as she threw her arms around him as he spun her around.
"I missed you, daddy." She closed her eyes and getting comfortable in his presence.
"I missed you too, baby girl." Idris said whilst eyeing Shereen.
