The sky began to grow dark as Toya made his way home. He was honestly surprised at this, for most of the time it would be a lot later.
With a cigarette hanging from his lips, Toya found himself gazing up at the darkening sky. Just like last time, he couldn't get Amaryllis out of his head, and it seems to be getting more and more frequent as they spend time together. It's different than Toya thinking about his family or just about anything else. With his family he thinks about their safety, what they might eat, how they might get into trouble. With Amaryllis he thought of completely different things. Her silver hair and red eyes, her lips and cold skin, her stern yet gentle tone. Just things he found very random.
Toya noticed that he was only a few blocks away from his house. He disposed of his cigarette before he continued on, he found that doing this a ways before he got home, the smell wouldn't be as strong.
When he did arrive at his house the night had settled in and the house seemed quite. It was dark when he walked in and the air seemed still. Although, Toya still tried to step quietly.
"What a surprise." A voice shot through the darkness and Toya froze. The lights clicked on and Toya turned to meet the eyes of his sister, Fuyumi. She sat at a table with papers scattered all around, although she looked tired and worn out she held herself up with a mocking look in her grey eyes.
"You normally get home a lot later than this," her voice heavily carried a mocking tone, along with a sly smile to accompany it.
"Ha ha," Toya mocked, "very funny. I suppose you were just waiting in the dark for me?"
"I noticed you down the road and thought I might surprise you," Fuyumi said with a smile. "Also, nice flower." She gestured to her ear.
Toya's hand quickly shot up and plucked the flower from behind his ear. He had completely forgotten about it. He lowered his head and stared down at the flower with embarrassment. Fuyumi laughed, "Wouldn't expect you to pick flowers. Who did you get it from?" Toya didn't answer, and just continued to stare down at the flower that he twirled around like is was a ballerina.
"Is it a girl?" Her tone was smooth and confident.
"Possibly," Toya mumbled. He could practically hear the smile stretching across her face.
"Oh really? How surprising."
"Surprising?" Toya's tone was sharp. Fuyumi was now resting her head in her hands with a sly look across her face. "Just surprising."
There was a pause before anything else was said.
"Did I miss anything, exciting?" Toya's tone was dark and put a damper on the mood. Fuyumi's expression changed and she sat back up. She took a moment before she answered. "Not really," she said, her eyes were casted downward as she seemed to be in deep thought. "I visited mom and she was the same, and Shoto is still the same. Everything is just the same dreary.." she took a moment, "shit." She sounded upset, but she does have every right to be.
There were a couple seconds of silence and Toya assumed that there conversation was over and proceeded to continue on his way till Fuyumi spoke once more.
"You still smell like smoke," her tone had now switched to a more disappointing tone, much like a mother's. "Is that all?" Toya asked, slightly irritated.
"One more thing." There was a now another mocking tone in her words. "Is she cute?" Toya didn't respond, but he was sure that the look in his eyes told her all she wanted to know.
