Walking to school was just another horrible thing. For Marco Diaz it's a struggle. Everyday he gets bullied by the kids at his school. No one has ever made friends with him, nor do they want to be.
He walked to Math class when a guy stopped in front of him and shoved him to the ground.
"Hey there nerd! Where ya headed off to?"
Marco became afraid not knowing what would happen. "J-just going to math that's it." The bully didn't take any chance against him. He grabbed Marco's neck desperately choking him.
"What's the matter? Can't speak huh?" Marco was about to pass out when the bell rang. Thank God it saved him.
The boy let go of Marco who was now red. He caught his breath and got up picking his backpack up, and went back to class.
As soon as Marco went home, he threw all his stuff on his bed and shut the door. His parents were not home. They were shopping. He went downstairs to the kitchen and grabbed a sharp knife. He walked back to his room and shut the door.
He sat on his bed thinking. About his life. His parents. He thought that maybe if he killed himself then and there, no on will have to see him again. He rolled up his sleeves revealing scars from previous cuttings. Slowly, he placed the knife on his right wrist and slid it across. Blood seeped out his skin. He winced at the pain but learned to ignore it. He made 27 cuts on each wrist. Tears were now forming. All the pain went through him.
He cried that night from all the pain that was caused. No fifteen year old should suffer like this, unfortunately most do.
Another day at school and Marco was in pain. His wrist throbbed from the cuts. He still ignored it.
It was lunch. All the kids sit with their friends. For Marco, he went where he always goes. The back of the school. This time he didn't eat. Hadn't been eating for the past month. He slammed himself on the wall and slid down. He placed his head in his knees resting. He thought about dying at school. Desperate to end it already.
"Can I sit here with you?"
He jumped when he saw a girl standing in front of him. She was blonde with long golden hair and bright blue eyes. She smiled at him.
"Sure?"
She nodded taking a seat next to him. "I don't think we've met, I'm Star what's yours?"
He was unsure if this. Why was this girl even talking to him? She could be playing a joke on him. "Marco."
"Cool! Mind to tell me why you sit here everyday? I'm just curious."
He was shocked. How did she know he sat here all the time? Was she stalking him? "Umm, I don't have any... friends to sit with," he replied sadly.
"Of course you have friends!"
"I don't."
"Yeah you do! I'm your friend!" He smiled. There was something about her that made him want to smile or give her a hug. Maybe it's her personality. However, she noticed the scars on his arm. She was quick to ask about it but be gentle at the same time.
"So, you do that?" She asked pointing to his wrist. He pulled up his sleeve.
"N-no that was from my...cat!"
He lied. He doesn't own a cat. She knew too he was lying.
"It's ok I won't tell anyone. It's safe with me. I understand"
He rolled his sleeve back down exposing his arm. She saw the scars that filled his arm up to down.
"I do this because I'm hurting so much. Everyone here makes me feel like I'm not worth living. My life isn't worth living."
"Your life is worth living. You have so much ahead of you. Think about the people that would miss you if you were gone."
"No one loves me. My parents don't love me. They fake it so they don't have to deal with me later."
"But I love you!"
He looked at her is disbelief. Like she was taking all of this but really, she's being serious.
"Y-you would?"
"Duh. It thnk you're a good kid despite what you go through. You have a whole life to live. Don't end it. I would miss you so much. I don't know you a whole lot but maybe we can get to know each other.
"You wouldn't want to hang out with me."
"Oh but I would." They exchanged looks. She was so sweet and nice that it gave him hope to live. Maybe he should live his life. Of it meant being with Star, then he'll give it a try.
"You know, I would like to be friends with you."
"Great! We are now officially friends! Hugs!" She wrapped her arms around his torso. He hasn't been hugged like this by a girl, ever. Only his parents gave him hugs. He felt happy with her. In fact, she might've made his day.
"But promise me something." She said gesturing to his wrist. "Promise me you'll stop this. I want you to be happy. I want you to smile, not frown. I love you too much."
Suddenly Marco randomly hugged Star. He gently rested his head on her shoulder sobbing quietly into her arms. "Please stay with me."
She hugged back slowly stroking his short, ruffled hair. "Here, let's take you home. I'll make sure you get to bed okay?"
"Okay."
The two got up and walked to Marco's house. When they got there, his parents were asleep (snoring to be exact). Star opened his door waiting for him to change and then lay down. She covered him up while turning off his lamp.
"You know you don't have to do this."
"But I want to do this. I think you had a rough day today."
This girl was doing things for him like he was five. Unbelievable but he felt safe. Almost like she was protecting him. He didn't want her to go but knew she had to go home.
Before star left he asked her a question. "Hey Star?"
She turned around. "Yes?"
"Umm, is it ok if I walk with you to school tomorrow?"
"Of course! Meet me at the bus stop at 7:00!" She ran to Marco and quickly hugged him then gave him a quick peck on the cheek causing him to blush madly. As if things could get any more embarrassing.
"That's for being so sweet! Bye Marco!" She closed the door and left. Marco on the other hand was still shocked from the kiss. He melted at her touch. Warm. Her scent smelled of something sugary like honey and strawberries. Tomorrow he'll have a better day. Maybe things won't be as bad...
