"Hyung when are you visiting again?" Jungkook asked Namjoon as he drank the sour drink from his glass. "I don't know when, honestly. Managing a business is very taxing and I rarely have any free time" Namjoon chuckled. "I'm glad you could finally visit. You rarely even update us" Jin grumbled, earning nods from everyone, as he pointed an accusing finger at Namjoon."I'm sorry everyone; I really am. I'll try visiting more often. I'm just really glad you were all free to meet me before I return to America tomorrow" Namjoon smiled at each of his Brothers– who returned the same genuine smile.
"Wow your love life must be nonexistent" Yoongi drawled; clearly drunk. "Well I don't deny it" Namjoon pursed his lips into a thin line. "Speaking of love life– Kookie how are you and Lisa" Taehyung looked at Jungkook.
Hearing this, everyone turned to look at the younger one in anticipation. "It's great" It's actually falling apart. "We rarely fight and she's amazing." We rarely see one another and when we do— we would always bicker about the pettiest of things.
"That's great! When's the wedding man. It's long overdue Kook, what are you waiting for?" Jimin playfully pushed Jungkook, unknowingly stepping on a land mine.
Jungkook masked his guilt as he realised the date at the mention of his fiancée's name. It was their anniversary and he'd forgotten. Jungkook's phone rang on the table and Taehyung noticed it. "Kook, your phones ringing" Taehyung pointed at the vibrating electronic device.
"Shit—" Jungkook mumbled, grabbing it pressing 'answer' as he placed the phone closed to his ear. "Hello? Yes this is Jeon Jungkook— What! Which hospital? Yes I'm on my way. Thanks—" Jungkook rubbed his face, clearly vexed, Jungkook hung up.
"Kook what's the matter?" Namjoon laid a hand on the younger's shoulder. "Lisa got into a car accident. I'm sorry but I need to go" Jungkook got up quickly.
"What? Then we're coming with you" Jimin declared grabbing his coat as well. The atmosphere was unnerving and everyone immediately grabbed their jackets as they stood up, looking at Jungkook.
Jungkook headed out into the cold winter night, running desperately towards his black Mercedes Benz. "I'll ride with Jungkook" Namjoon hollered out, earning a nod from the rest. "It's at Hongdae General Hospital" Jungkook's voice cracked as he tried to fight back his tears.
"Fuck. Fuck. Fuck!" Jungkook screamed into the dark winter night, as they neared his car. "Kook calm down" Namjoon held Jungkook back, looking at him with wide, worried eyes. "I'll drive. Since you're in no condition to do so" Namjoon gave Jungkook a faint smile, grabbing the keys from him.
"Come on let's go see Lisa" Namjoon whispered softly, as they both entered the vehicle. Without wasting any time, Namjoon started the engine, stepping on the gas pedal. They swerved out of the parking lot, and into the night they drove.
The snow was pretty heavy, and the traffic was starting to intensify. "Fuck!" Jungkook looked around in fright as they started to slow down. "Hyung this is taking too long. If I need to run in order to get there I'll do it" Jungkook stated with a hard expression on his face.
"We'll get there Kook.. don't worry" Namjoon glanced at him, focusing on the task at hand. Gripping the steering wheel he honked mercilessly at the car in front of them.
Jungkook ran his hand through his hair as guilt started to eat his conscience whole. He grabbed his phone, scrolling through his voicemails.
She had sent 4 of in total and with a trembling finger, he pressed play.
Beep
"Baby? Are you there yet? Traffic's so bad. I'll be there soon. I love you. Happy anniversary."
Beep
The first one ended and Jungkook could feel as tears started to well up. But he was determined he wouldn't cry. He didn't even deserve to shed a single tear. He fucked up badly this time.
Biting his lips, he pressed on the second one.
Beep
"Hey baby. I've reached and I'm already seated at our table. You'll love it. It has a perfect view of the Han River. I was so worried that I've kept you waiting– when I'm actually early myself *laughs* anyways, happy anniversary baby! you won't believe what I got you. Hurry here, my nochu. I miss you already."
Beep
Although he tried, he couldn't contain himself any longer. Tears started pouring down like heavy rainfall. "Baby I'm so.. shit.. fuck" he mumbled incoherently as he began to quiver uncontrollably; still trying to fight back his overwhelming tears.
Beep
"Hey baby.. are you okay? You're not replying any of my messages, nor answering any of my calls. I'm worried. Please call me back. I love you."
"I don't deserve you. I don't fucking deserve you" Jungkook whimpered against the palm of his hand, trying to focus on his breathing.
Beep
"I'm sure you have a good reason for missing our anniversary dinner. I'm on the way home. I love you."
Beep
That was the final blow for Jungkook. He dropped his phone on the car floor as he buried his head into the palm of his hands. "Why? Why? Why? Why?" He screamed, pulling on the ends of his dark brown hair aggravatingly.
Jungkook felt empty. He'd broken her heart so many times yet she still loved him unconditionally— without question.
However, this time he knew deep down; she wouldn't take him back. Why would she? She deserved someone better. Someone who'd treat her right.
Someone who'd at least
remember their anniversary."We're here" Namjoon started as he abruptly stopped the car. "Go ahead I'll look for a place to park" Namjoon nodded towards Jungkook who dashed out of his own car as soon as Namjoon stopped.
