Chapter Twelve

Tatjana’s POV

“Jess, can we talk?”, I asked sheepishly and stood in her room’s doorframe.

Jess sat on her bed and looked up at me, smiling. “Sure, come on in!”, she laughed happily and got up from her bed. “What’s up?”

“It’s about Marlene...”, I murmured and saw Jess rolling her eyes. “Do we really have to talk about her? I don’t want to...” She moaned like a little child and I had to smile slightly.

“I’m sorry but I think so. She really wanted to apologize. You avoid her so you don’t see her but I do and I can see she is truly sorry. And she also misses you and Tessa.” I bit my lower lip and hoped she’d understand. It was killing me to be between them because they were all my friends and I... I loved them all!

“But she was overreacting! I told her everything would be alright and she yelled at me!” Her eyes started tearing up and I sighed, wrapping an arm around her.

“I know... and I can tell she really regrets it. And she wanted to apologize... But you wouldn’t let her.”

Jess gasped. “So you think this is all my fault?!”

“No!”, Tatjana exclaimed and felt useless. “It’s not, Jess! I just think... I would want you to make up. I really miss the times where we all were best friends.”

“Well, Marlene should’ve thought about it before she blamed me for everything!”

“Please, Jess! She wanted to apologize! Why don’t you want to accept it? She is sorry!”

Jess sighed and ran a hand through her hair. “Okay, I will think about it.” She bit her lower lip and wiped away her tears. “I... I meet Luke later so I need to get ready, okay?”

I smiled slightly. “So... you’re dating now?”

She blushed hard and looked away from me with a huge grin on her face. Oh, she was definitely into Luke! “Yeah...”, she murmured and smiled at me. “Oh my, he is sooo cool! And he asked me out! Isn’t it amazing?!”

“It is”, I laughed and hugged her once more. “Have fun!” And with these words I left her room and walked over to mine. Phew. I had almost made things even worse! What if I had made her mad at me, too?

I could see how much Marlene was sorry for yelling at her and when she wanted to apologize to Jess I also felt a bit disappointed towards Jess. I just couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t want to accept it!

Had anything else happened?

Anything I didn’t know about?

But Marlene would’ve told me, wouldn’t she?

I mean, we’re best friends. But Jess and she also are best friends...

No, I’m getting paranoid. Marlene would’ve told me if there had been something else. I sighed and ran a hand through my hair before I checked my phone. One missed call from Marlene and one from James.

I could feel the blood rush up to my cheeks when I read his name. Who should I call first?

I decided on James and dialled his number. With an instant he answered. “Hey, Tatjana, how are you?”

“Great! Err, you were calling me?”

“Oh, yeah, I... erm... well, tomorrow these Theme Park opens for the first time... and it’s not that expensive... and I... well, I wondered... would you like to go there with me?”

My grin even grew and without any hesitation and I nodded vigorously and said: “Yes! I’d love to!”

I could hear him sigh in relief and chuckled to myself. “Cool! When should I get you? I thought that we could maybe go there a bit earlier so we could enjoy the whole day!”
