I was the marigold girl.
Love, I bloomed so brightly,
You almost couldn't look at me.
And I stood strong.
Light, like the sun, love.
You watered me everyday.
That water was so crisp,
Clear, like your eyes, love.
Beautiful like marbles.
And my petals were soft,
Sweet, pretty.
But love, you kept blinking away your tears.
I never knew why you were crying,
But I could see the droplets lining the rims of your eyes.
One day, love,
I realized that you weren't happy.
You weren't yourself with the marigold girl.
And I gently told you,
As difficult as it was,
As badly as it hurt me,
You didn't have to water me anymore.
You left, love.
The relief was evident.
And I'm glad you're better now.
The marigold girl withered,
And turned into
A moonflower.
