Chapter Ten.
"Apologies"[CURRENT]
A dreaded groan escaped Louis as he made his way over to the gates, his gaze landing on someone who was already waiting by entrance, Aasim. After the whole ordeal of the fight that went down the day before, he really wanted to avoid Aasim for the day, or maybe even forever. Unfortunately he knew he had a job and the two of them were the best selected few to do the hunting trip.
As Louis slowly approached, Aasim snapped his head up as he instantly tried to straighten up his body, though he fidgeted awkwardly as he stood, "Hey.." was all the left the male's lips. Louis raised a brow as he watched him oddly, "Hey..?" he said, more so as a question rather than a greeting. Aasim crossed his arms as he made himself look anywhere else but at Louis, he released a heavy sigh before muttering harsh words to himself under his breath. He forced himself to look up, practically staring Louis down, "Louis, look...I..I'm sorry for what I said yesterday. I was out of line." Aasim said in a strong voice, yet his brown eyes wavered as he anxiously watched Louis for his next move.
Louis blinked his now widened chocolate eyes at his words, in all honestly, he wasn't expecting an apology. If anything, he was expecting Aasim to defend himself for yesterday due to being, in his terms, annoyed all day and it slipped. Staying silent for what felt like long minutes, when it really was only a few measly seconds, Aasim took this as a bad sign as he stepped back and quickly changed the topic. "Anyways, uhh, Marlon said that Clementine and AJ will be joining us for the hunt.." He explained before turning around to walk away.
"Wait."
Aasim stopped in his tracks as he turned to look back, seeing that Louis seemed to be in a mental battle, after exhaling a tired breath he shook his lightly. "No, I get it. It's just..." he paused as he sighed, glancing back up to Aasim, "...it's been hard and, well, I wasn't expecting you to say her name.." He finally told him in a grimace as he remembers the harsh voice of yesterday that spoke her name in vain. Aasim nodded slowly as he glowered at that ground, before he could say anything else, Louis spoke up again. "What I'm trying to say is that I accept your apology, after all we can't be fighting, especially now. And well, yeah." Louis scratched the back of his head, the atmosphere thick and heavy with tension and awkwardness between the two.
"Thanks." Was all Aasim said, it was all he could say for that now things had been somewhat resolved between the two. "Now all that's left is to wait for the other two and we can head out." He continued before turning and walking off towards the ladder placed next to the front gates so that he could chat with Mitch and Willy, who were both currently on lookout duty.
Leaving Louis by himself, letting grumbles and sighs escape his lips as he rubbed his face with his hands. Each day was getting harder and harder, nightmares continued to torment his already sensitive mind, and these meaningless fights with each other took an unnecessary toll on him. Over time, many have told him that it takes time to heal and thing would get better eventually, yet he couldn't help himself but to disagree.
On top of all this, there was the new girl and the kid she's taking care of that came out of nowhere two days ago. Even though Marlon and few of the others seems to trust her Louis was still shockingly skeptical of the pair and the whole event. Everyone believes Louis is the heart of the group, the light that brightens everyone's day when it goes bad. Louis being Louis, he continued with that role, getting along with everyone if possible, give or take small disputes that happen from time to time. Around Clementine his body is relaxed, his mouth flirts, yet his chocolate eyes are filled with everlasting gloom. A gloom that no one notices.
Everyone sees that he's already trusts Clementine as it's said to be his well known trait of getting along with others, that's just how he is. Only if that were true, even he can't help but to feel uneasy about it all. To feel that the worst has yet to come, and no one else seems to be feeling the calm before the storm like he has.
His mind raced with these mixed thoughts and feelings of confusion soon died out when he looked back to the school and could see Clementine and AJ making their way over to him. Aasim, who had seen the two approach them, made his way back over to Louis as the four of them met up. Before any of them could notice, Louis took a deep breath as he gave his signature soft smile, one not entirely fake, but also one not entirely truthful."Alright guys! Chose to go hunting with us? See Aasim, I told you they love us." He nudged his elbow to the male standing next to him with a small smirk plastered onto his face.
Aasim only rolled his eyes and shook his head while turning around towards the gate, which now Mitch and willy were both standing there, ready to open and close the gates for them. Clementine gave a soft smile as she looked over to Louis-
"Fuck yeah!"
Hearing his voice say such profanity, her head snapped down to the boy of the group. "AJ.." She warned with a raise of a brow, in response, AJ only chuckled nervously as he scratched the back of his head. "uhh, He-heck yeah?" He corrected himself, earning a approving nod from Clem. "Better."
Louis' eyes darted back and forth between the two in amusement. Even though he wasn't completely there with trusting the two yet, or even if he was wrong on the gut instinct on the calm before a storm. Yet he couldn't lie to himself when he felt the pang in his chest as he saw Clementine smile at him. To anyone, it was a simple smile of greeting, acknowledgment, and of sincerity. Yet to him, he saw a familiar smile, a smile that used to say sweet nothings to him. A smile that held so many broken meanings and promises behind.
A smile he craved to see again.
