Chapter Fifteen

Chapter Fifteen:
“The Hunt”

Louis walked on, the occasional chatter of the others in front of him as he was left alone to the endless loop of memories. It wasn't until someone had waved a hand repeatedly in front of him, finally snapping him out of his dreading thoughts. He looked over to see Clementine, a brow raised at his zoned out form.

“I didn't think it ever be possible for you to get quiet.” She commented as her hand fell to her side while they all walked, AJ in the front with Aasim as the two chatted softly about the area. Louis chuckled softly as he scratched the nape of his neck in slight embarrassment. “Oh no, I've been caught! Tragic.” He remarked only with a teasing sense of being dramatic. Earning a soft, playful scoff from the female as she rolled her eyes, her brown orbs glancing forward as they watched AJ, who continued to hold a conversation with Aasim.

The two who stood in the back continued to follow Aasim to the destined hunting area. It's been a very long time since the school had someone new, if anything, Louis couldn't remember any faces of anybody joining them later on. This leaving Louis to rekindle a memory, a memory of the first time they went hunting. The memory was hazy, yet he was able to remember phases of what he hope to be every ounce of it. Even if it didn't end well.

“It's just, not often someone new joins us hunting, hell I don't think we ever had anyone join the school after everything went to shit.” The male explained exasperatedly. “With you and AJ here, it kinda feels… nostalgic. You know? Kind of reminding me of the first time we kids were allowed to leave the gates-”

“Ugh, don't remind me.” The voice of Aasim was heard as he overheard Louis comment while releasing a sourful grunt. Louis blinked for a few moments before his cheeks flushed lightly as he only then understood what Aasmin was referring to, he awkwardly gazed down at the ground as once again rubbed the nape of his neck nervously. “Sorry.” He winced at his weak apology, which Aasim responded with a shake of his head. “It's fine, it happened a long time ago, even I barely remember is…”

The only female quirked a brow at the discreet conversation of the two, watch them exchange words, AJ having a similar response as hi instinct to look at Clementine for clarification kicked in. Clementine only shrugged her shoulders to show the younger one she knew nothing of what was going on. Louis noticed the visible confused expression laced on the newcomers faces, he opened his mouth to break the silence, before he had a chance to talk, Aasim spoke up.

“I was shot.. I was shot on our first hunting trip along with losing two loved people. The mission resulted and soon was labelled as a failure.” The male upfront explained briefly, of which a look of sadness flashed across Louis' face. The male with dark dreadlocks sighed as he looked over to a surprised yet mournful Clementine, Clementine unfortunately understanding the pain that the two had experienced all too well.

The group continued to walk on in silence, eventually the silence was broken as Aasim stopped walking, “This is where some of our traps are, we'll split up, though don't leave each others sight, stay close in the area and see if any traps have been activated. If a trap has been activated, then reset it.” Aasim explained before fixing his hold on his crossbow and walking into the bushes only a few feet away from them. Louis then nudged AJ’s side and pointed his weapon of choice, Chairles, into a direction. “I saw a walker over there in one of our traps, and it looks like I need some help, you up for it little man?” As soon as the offer was mentioned, a grin broke out on AJ's face as he nodded, “Heck yeah!” With that said, the two walked over to where the walker was.

Clementine was left to her thoughts as the males left to do their own thing. She released a sad sigh as she though back to what Aasim had said of their first hunting trip, she knew was loss and getting injured felt like, never did she wish it upon on anyone, especially these kids. The female looked up and glanced over into the direction of where Louis and AJ were, seeing them just around a tree as they took care of a walker..in their own way.

She couldn't help but to feel suspicious, on their way to the hunting area, she noticed when Louis first zoned out, she noticed he had a faint smile, which became a frown in a short period of time. She could tell and knew that something else had happened on that trip, nor was she sure what it was or if it was any of her business. She could only wait until the school open up to her and AJ more before either of them could tell their story, A story which she would rather not share, yet a story of which correlated with the others here.

With that being her last thought before she snapped herself out of her spiraling mind, she forced herself to move as she walked over to Aasim to help him hunt as the others seemed to have it all handled with the walker.

Little to Clementines knowledge of the fact that she was correct on her thoughts. Louis did view that trip differently than most, his heart still ached for the pain of hearing the first, initial passing of Talia and Ezekiel along wit few of his friends getting hurt during the trip. Though, he managed to focus on something else, his way of coping what happened on that trip was to remember the night they all spent before the incident.

The night they all sat around the fire, talking, joking, telling stories before they all went to sleep.

The night he held her close to him as the chatted to themselves off to the side.

The night of where he, for the first time, saw the true beauty of his female companion as she sat under faint moonlight rays as she watched the starry sky.

The night, of where he knew, he had fallen in love.
