"Progress Takes Time, but It's Still Progess."

[PAST]

The sun returned the following day, in which most were certain it was out of mockery due to what they had experienced and lost the day before.

Those that had survived and were well enough to move were given the task of creating the graves and to take over the chores around the school grounds.

Meanwhile Aasim and the bulldog, Rosy, stayed behind to help out the former school nurse in watching over those that were still deathly sick.

It wasn't until mid noon that same day had Skylar returned with a small bag of supplies. When questioned as to where the other three that had went with him were, he only responded with a tired shake of his head.

Unfortunately, Skylar hadn't been fast enough to return as the youngest of the sick, Marcy, was now to far to gone for the medicine to help her. Skylar and Marlon were given the role of putting her down.

Just like that, the family grew even smaller than ever.

-------------

Three days had now passed since the outbreak.

Currently as the spring sun peered out from scattered clouds and shined upon a small group, whom were still putting their all into completeing the last of the the graves. Finally having each of the groups finish up their last grave hole, they then quietly worked together to bring out each body from the building to be placed into each hole designed for them. Tenn took this chance to drag Willy away from his work to help create grave markers for each of the fallem members of their community.

After days of endless crying, there were no longer any tears to be shedded. The group was taking their time in the early season of spring to grieve as the put those to proper rest.

One the funeral was done, Skylar took matters into his own hands as he began to teach majority of the younger teens in how to survive and gather things outside the walls as the extra hands now were needed. He mainly focused on Brody, Violet, (Y/n), Minerva, Aasim, Louis, and Marlon. In which they all took turns going to the green house to resume their previously dormant harvest, going to the river to try and gather fish and other edible berrys out in the wilderness, and lastly to learn to hunt for animals on the hunting grounds.

----------

Days soon turned to weeks, which eventually became months as now the summer season was upon region. The younger teens soon found find their hope and will to continue on for those that didn't and learned to geth through the hardships together over the months of being together. They thrived from one another as they each took their role to the community more seriously once they were capable of handling each assignment given.

Things may never seem to be getting better, but the world still was moving. Why shouldn't the rest of us survivors?

"(Y/n)! Aasim!"

The two that were being called were now reentering the gate that Mitch and Willy had opened up for them. Aasim having two large, and deceased, rabbits hanging at his hip as the female carried in her crossbow. They both stopped in their tracks as the loud 'clunk' could be heard of the gate closing and locking behind them. Turning to the small fireplace surrounded by sofas, the two saw their friends gathered by a recently lit fire. The female of the two smiled brightly at the sight as she waved over to them as she jogged to join them, meanwhile Aasim brought the rabbits over to Omar who was now preparing dinner.

"Hey guys! Taking it easy I see." (Y/n) chirped as she made way over to them. The small group return a small smile as they nodded. Sophie being the first to speak up.

"The greenhouse didn't have a lot to harvest today, so Brody and I went with Minnie and Violet to the river." In which the other girls nodded in confirmation. However, unknowingly to the others, (Y/n) caught the quick expression of annoyance crossing over the faces of Minerva and Violet. She silently snickered to herself as she had remembered during one of her nightly chats with Violet, had the blond female spoke of her blossoming relationship with the redhead twin.

She shook her head lightly as she shifted around the currently lit fireplace towards the one couch that Louis and Marlon shared. Without warning she ploppled herself abruptly onto their lap, her back resting against Louis' lap while she threw her legs over Marlon's lap, startling the two as they cried out while sinking further into the torn sofa cushions.

The others around the camp fire released a series of laughter at the typical antics displayed before them. While the two now captivated males groaned as (y/n) only gave them a cheeky smile before getting more comfortable. Reaching a hand up she patted Louis' cheek gently. "Awwwe, thanks guys! So sweet of you~" She cooed, pinching his cheek teasingly, earning the darker male to swat her hand away with a soft smile on his lips.

Once the laughter had died down, the group then went on to talking about their day. That is, until Louis shifted, reaching into his coat pocket and pulling out an old deck of cards.

"Anybody up for a game?"

No matter how much death and destruction is brought upon someone. If you have others that are in the same boat, your all in on it together, and life from there continues on.

No matter how little the progress may seem, it's still progress nonetheless.
