I was all ready for the dance, hair done, the tiniest bit of makeup on my face, and my dress on. I was all happy and excited until I got a call.
*flash back to 4 hours ago*
"It hurts", I complained, as ate Angie brushed my hair. "It'll be quick, we're just putting it into a ponytail."
I groaned and continued playing with my bracelet. It was the one my parents got me the day before they died, which was also my birthday. Sad, right?
Ms. Danielle's sister was applying a little bit of clear lip gloss on me and mascara. I told her I didn't need blush, I was always blushing anyway.
"Okay, finished", she smiled, showing my face in the mirror. "You idiot! Get her dress", she screamed at her husband. I laughed, but covered my mouth when he playfully glared at us.
"Success!" I looked at my hair in the mirror. I thought it was pretty simple, it was after all just a ponytail.
They tossed me my dress and I ran into the bathroom to change. I slipped my feet inside and almost tripped. I slid my arms into the strap and opened the door. "Done!" I yelled. I heard my phone ring and quickly ran to it. "Hello?" I said, not bothering to check who it was.
"I can't go to the dance." At first I was really confused until I realized it was Juan Karlos. I was being dumped?!
Sort of.
"Oh", I said, trying to sound as calm as possible. "Okay, bye."
I hung up the phone before he could say anything else. "Guys", I started. "I'm not going to the dance."
They all gasped dramatically as I rolled my eyes. "Dumped."
They all walked towards me to give me a hug as I laughed. "Guys I'm fine. We were just best friends anyway."
*End of Flashback*
And that's how I ended up reading more than 3 books on a Friday night.
Oh, Darren was also here. He and Emma wouldn't leave until I agreed to go with the both of them. But of course I didn't want to ruin their date.
"C'mon Syd", Darren said. "You're being dumb", he scolded. I rolled my eyes and sighed. "Fine, persuasive and persistent kj's", I muttered. (kj means kill joy if you guys didn't know lol ha, backwards it's jk, see what I did there?)
They cheered and I slouched all the way to the door. "Wait picture time", Lola Amy yelled. I stood off to the side while Darren and Emma posed.
I took a peek at the first picture and you could literally (not really) see me slowly dying inside of the picture while Darren and Emma were full of life.
"Can we go now?" I whined. They just waved me off and we walked back to school. My life is so amazing isn't it? Note the sarcasm.
I saw JK and Stacy walked towards us and I groaned. How awkward is it to be constantly faced with the person that turned you down last minute?!
Very.
"Hey guys", Stacy said enthusiastically. I continued to walk and ignore them. "She's obviously still bummed that you chose that over her", Emma muttered to them. "Inconsiderate motherf-" Darren stopped her before she could say anything and I wanted so bad to take a glimpse at Karlos' face, but I couldn't.
I saw Luke, one of my classmates outside of the school, all alone. He was nice, I had him for a partner for a school project and he was hilarious.
Maybe he's waiting for his date. I went inside of the auditorium and it was packed with everyone from school. Emma and Darren entered before me and I didn't bother leaving the door open for Stacy and JK.
Cruel I know, but wasn't what he did to me cruel too?!
"I just wanted to apologize", I heard JK say nervously. I pretended to ignore him and went off to sit by myself. "Just leave her for a while. She needs time", Stacy suggested.
I turned around with a smile on my face, "It's fine Juan Karlos. We are just friends. Nothing more, but plain old friends." I turned around and walked away from them.
Oh hecks yeah. Point one Sydney.
I sat at a table and started playing with my phone. I have no Internet here at school so I have no choice but to play the crappy games on my phone.
I saw Darren and Emma slow dancing together and I imagined that being me and Juan Karlos.
Wait, hold the phone. What am I talking about? We're friends. Wow even I don't believe myself.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even notice Darren walk in front of me. "May I have this dance?" He politely asked as he held out his hand. I glanced at Emma and she nodded approvingly.
I took Darren's hand and we walked out on the dance floor. "Thanks Darren. You didn't have to do this though, I feel bad about intruding your date with Emma", I blushed. Good thing it was dark.
"Please Sydney, Emma and I don't care. We like each other, yes, but you're our friend. Did you see how you looked all alone over there?" He raised an eyebrow.
"I hated how it looked, so did Emma so we arranged this", he laughed, gesturing to the both of us.
I smiled and we stayed silent the whole time. It was a comfortable kind of silence.
I looked over Darren's shoulder and saw Juan Karlos sitting alone. I wonder what happened?
"Darren thanks for the dance, but I have to go check on Juan Karlos. Bye I love you guys!" I said quickly and easily slipped through the people dancing.
I approached him and he had a sad look on his face.
Aw poor jerk.
"Hey." He slowly looked up at me and gave me a little smile. "What happened?" I asked.
"She did the same thing I did to you and now I feel horrible about dumping you and her dumping me. I just wanna say that I'm sorry and will you take me back", he said in one quick breath.
"Yeah."
