29. Missing Nidhi!

The morning was indeed a beautiful one when two of the most beautiful and important women in Manik's life were with him, together serving him breakfast, smiling at each other and at him too. He was content, he needed nothing else from life.

Sometimes destiny seems so cruel that all we want to do is go and fight with the bestowed writer of our destinies, yell at him and make things our way but then sadly, it's not humanly possible. So that writer I suppose,himself feels sad for us and he himself corrects things to make it a little bearable.
Philosophy at it's best, isn't it? But in it, lies the truth too!

Anyway, Manik was smiling sheepishly thinking about his changed luck when Veebha noticed his lovestruck puppy face and winked at Nandini. Nandini replied with a assuring smile and both of them sat in front of him on the table, making extremely glum faces.

" Nandini beta, I am really sorry beta, I never knew this will happen, ever!", Veebha said with a grim expression while Nandini started sniffing slowly. She had hidden a plate of onions in her lap and was chopping it, hiding from Manik and thus easily tears were making their way out.

Manik heard his mother speak but could not understand what she was talking about.

"Maa, what happened?" he questioned intervening, but Veebha ignored his question.

" Nandini I am really, genuinely sorry. There must be a fault in my upbringing, so that you had to see this fateful day!", she said imitating a  typical hindi serial dialogues while Nandini barely managed to suppress her chuckle, and continue to sob.

"No Aunty. The fault must be in my love, for me to get cheated like this!",  she said way more melodramatically.
Manik was frowning at both of them as he could not grasp a word of their talks. It all looked like they had both grown multiple horns.

"Excuse me? Who cheated whom by the way?", he again questioned scratching his head, dumbfounded at their behavior.

"You, who else! You are cheating on my dear Nandini!", Veebha pointed at him and Nandini cried a little more, for the effect. Manik was horrified hearing the allegations.

"What? Seriously Maa? What are you saying? When did I cheat? And why will I cheat?", he tried defending himself, completely unaware of the prank.

"How would I know when and why? All I know is, you broke her fragile heart!", Veebha continued her drama while Manik had a terrible and horrified expressions on his face. He glanced at Nandini who was looking down, tears streaming down her face.

"Maa? What are you saying? Nandini?", he asked with an almost crying face. Nandini who was too busy faking tears almost burst out laughing and to make up for that she sobbed loudly and Manik stumbled at this sight. Enough was enough. He was now getting angry at their monologue.

"And how did you conclude that I cheated on her? he asked gritting his teeth, glaring at his mother.

"That's easy to observe. I am sitting in front of you. Nandini is sitting in front of you. Yet, you are lost somewhere. Smiling to yourself. What else is that supposed to mean?" Veebha said with a serious face and Nandini pressed her lips together to not laugh at the dumb logic.

Hearing the explanation, the look on his face was priceless. He didn't understand if to cry or to shout at their stupidity. Finally both the ladies could do no more torture to themselves and thus burst out laughing loudly. Manik initially could not grasp what was going on but when finally the light of his brain enlightened him he made a angry pout and both Veebha and Nandini once again burst into laughter. After a long grumpy session by Manik and the ladies trying to not laugh the breakfast ended and Manik dashed into his room not talking to either of them. Nandini passed a quick smile to her would be mother in law and rushed behind him. Entering his room, she found him standing in front of the mirror with a angry face trying to knot the tie. Nandini slowly moved towards him and turned him and started to tie the knot for him. Manik did not say anything to her and turned his face.
