38. His Stance!

~ All he needed to breathe again, was her, and she gave him exactly that!~

Kabir dragged Nandini outside the hospital building, not wanting to create a scene in the hospital building but this girl really needed some brain to function. Kabir's face was flushed with anger for today, it was not her best friend standing, but Manik's soul brother- the only person who had seen him suffering, breaking down bit by bit, the darkness engulfing him while he struggled to make his way out.

" God Nandini why are you so stupid and impulsive! Shit!", He cursed aloud, scaring her more, but in that moment even her tears didn't melt Kabir.

"I wasn't impulsive Kabir", She said amidst her tears, "I was just afraid and...", She could not complete, hiccups stopping her but Kabir knew her well.

" And insecure!", Kabir said the word for her and she looked up at him. For the first time in her life she saw irritation and anger for her in his eyes. Kabir had been her with for years, known her clumsy and naive nature but nothing she did ever irritated him, before today.

" Goddamn Nandini! Seriously? You are insecure? Of what? What do you think can happen? If you really think
he, of all, can leave you? You don't know what you mean to him? Remember Ms Nandini Murthy, we can leave away and go the things we always had, in excess but when we crave for something for a lifetime and then get that we keep it safe and secure in our hearts", he gritted his teeth and spat it all on her face. Some facts need to be thrown on faces for people to really understand them.

Nandini was stunned at his sentence. Kabir would have slapped her if he could, if it could have got her some sense. God knows where did she dump all her maturity and intelligence when it came with respect to her own life, and this time it was more than Kabir could handle.

" When I told you everything about him, I though you will understand him and his needs. He does not give a damn to the society and money Nandini. He always had lots of it but what he craved for was a little peace, a ray of hope in his dark life, a reason to live and all of these with much more was what you gave him. You are the reason he got his smile back. He got his trust back. He got his confidence back. How can he ever let you go? He will die before that and if you leave him na I know he will not survive a minute more. His whole existence is you. And you are insecure? Damn Nandini. You have every reason to be confident about you and him because you are his drug! He has 1000 reasons to be insecure because he knows anyone would be happy to have you, he knows you can leave him for your family- the way you were going to do. But he never said this to you. He trusted you will all his might and all you did was break his already broken heart into million more pieces. I can't imagine in what condition he is in, anymore? ", Kabir finally told her,  actually gave her a much needed reality check. But he himself was so distressed with everything that getting no way to vent out his anger and helplessness, he banged his fist on the nearby wall. A loud thud echoed while Nandini was again stunned. She was too numb to react. Kabir was again going to bang his already bleeding hand but someone caught it just in time- Navya!

She took his hand in his and looking at her, he finally broke down on his knees, crying in the arms of his beloved- grieving for his friend! Navya, who was herself in tears, held him tightly and rubbed his back to calm him. Had it been some other girl, who was dragged to hospital on the next day of her marriage, witnessing her husband crying for his friends, she might have developed a hatred for them. She might have been jealous of them. But it was not another girl. It was Navya. She knew Kabir as well as Manik and Nandini. She knew what they meant to each other and also now she was an integral part of their lives. So she acted maturely and not only consoled Kabir but also passed an assuring glance to Nandini.

As few minutes rolled into hours, Kabir got a grip on himself with the help of navya and calming himself, went into check with the doctor. He was still avoiding Nandini because he did not know what more to tell her. Navya on the other hand was handling Kabir as well as Veebha together. Nandini was silent, her mind and heart both traumtaized with the guilt that had began to set inside her.
