she looks at herself in the mirror and frowns. maybe it's because of the way she feels, maybe it's because she doesn't recognize herself with blonde hair. there's a multitude of right answers to that question.

the blonde hair is temporary yet it still makes her uncomfortable. the last time her hair had been that short, she'd been seventeen and disney dictated her hairstyles. there had also been a brief period, months before, when her hair fell little below her shoulders (it had felt so wrong, two weeks later she was getting extensions), but even then, it had still been about three or four inches longer than it was now. 

her deep blue dress sits on the chair next to her, waiting for her to pick it up and put it on. the red lipstick on her lips doesn't seem correct for how she's feeling. her kitten heels looked despicable but if that was what her stylist wanted her to wear, she would. there was no strength in her to fight over something that petty. 

she takes a look at her phone. nothing new. no replies to her texts, no good or bad news. that makes her sadder than any potential reply ever could.

chris, we need to talk. lets not do this. that fight was stupid. you know i want nothing more than friendship from Thomas. just answer my calls, please.

she's already dressed and ready to go by the time she tries one last call. it rings and rings until she lands on voicemail. 

she figures there's no point in leaving a message.
