MATILDA EDWARDS IS STAKING A CLAIM ON HER HAPPINESS

The life of actress, singer, philanthropist and producer, Matilda Edwards (27) has been a hot topic of tabloid magazines since the age of 14, when young Matilda went from small roles on famous Disney Channel Series to one of the main characters on one of the channel's most loved series, Wizards of Waverly Place, alongside brothers Nigel and Anthony Edwards, who, next to her, portrayed the children of the Russo Family.

It was a quick take-off from there. At sixteen, her first songs and album were out, under Disney tutelage. Edwards was officially a Pop Princess, friends with all, famous or not. No bad blood around her (and even then, it seemed to dissipate rather fast - as it did when her and Miley Cyrus feuded over Nick Jonas).

Or so it seemed. Rising as an actress and singer, Edwards is half of two major Hollywood relationships: a fast (and almost immature) love story with Canada's Justin Bieber, and what is now a friendship of over a decade, with Taylor Swift.

Suddenly, not all is golden anymore. As Bieber rises, so does trouble. Feuds start sprouting from all sides, feeding off of rumours. (On her new album, Edwards addresses the issue in a track called She - the title of soon to come Netflix documentary on the singer)

Between cheating rumours, this relationship seems to be more toxic than is led on. Ending three years after they started (and with many breaks in between), Jatilda is doomed to a bitter end.

It never gets easier. Not even with many successful albums and movies, fashion deals and collections. The fandom is still hunted by the memory of the near-death to her career when Edwards choose to stick by Swift's side during her feuds with the Kardashian-West and Katy Perry.

Looking back now, Edwards speaks out on an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

"People were telling my story. And nothing I said overpowered that. I didn't even have the strength to make contradict them, just allowed them to run with it. But not anymore. I've got to take over my life and my story. That's all I want right now."

With two more controversial relationships in her history, and a new album after close to five years, Edwards' Rare has fans confused. Despite the amazing storytelling (Rare has charted to becoming her most acclaimed one, it's newest single giving her her first ever #1 on Billboard Top 100 and 200 and Rolling Stones Magazine), fans feel like not all their questions have been answered.

"I must admit that there is some stuff that I can't say. I don't feel comfortable. So much I've kept to myself throughout the years that I'm terrified of revealing. At some point I will... But I need to do it at my pace, for once."

Despite rumors and lies, Edwards is indisputably claiming to be the source of her happiness. Dealing with comments thrown at her from all sides, from fans to co-starts, her last relationship soured in a very public way, and Matilda calmly reveals that it was hard; that therapy had helped her beyond measure. That she'd learned to love herself.

On the bridge of an unreleased song, played exclusively to the WSJ, Edwards sings: "she knows she'll find love, only if she wants it."

She will be out for streaming on Netflix, everywhere on the the stars' 28th birthday.
