Chapter 1 - the test

Tris P.O.V

On another ordinary morning in the abnegation sector I opened my eyes to my grey empty bedroom that just simply consisted of my bed and wardrobe.

I got up, got dressed then I went into a little room with my mum where she cut my hair, put it in a bun and unlocked the little mirror then slid open the old wooden door.

I looked up and I could see how much I had changed in only three months but it was almost as soon as I looked up I looked down again, simply just from habit.

After that my mum plainly said "rules are rules" then she gently shut and locked the mirror.

Soon after I went down the stairs where my brother Caleb was talking with my dad.

It was at that moment that I remembered today was the day of my aptitude test.

I quickly got my self some breakfast and walked with my brother to school,

We didn't talk much so to break the silence that seemed to be screaming at me I asked if he was nervous for his test! He replied in a shaky voice "no" it sounded as if he did want to sound nervous near me.

I was going to tell him he doesn't have to pretend to be brave near me but I just stayed quiet and continued walking.

When we got to school people were already having there tests so Caleb and I just sat down with a group of people from our faction who were still waiting to have there tests.

Each and every name that was called out made me feel even more nervous, I tried to calm myself down until I heard my name get called.

I got up carefully and started walking towards the room, when I got inside I was greeted by a woman who wasn't much taller than me she had dark brown hair and by what she was wearing I could tell that she was dauntless.

I shyly said hello to her and by the look on her face I could tell she knew I was nervous. "hello sweetie my name is tori" she said to me.

"take a seat today I will be administering your test"

As I watched her pull out a small glass and pour pale blue liquid into it she explained to me what was about to happen

"When you drink this liquid you will fall asleep and you will be faced with a series of choices that you will have to make once the computer has decided what faction you are based on how you act it will end"

She then gave me the glass containing the blue liquid and as I held it I quickly smelled it, then drank it in one gulp. It didn't really have a flavour but it was lightly sour

I don't remember falling asleep but now I am in a room and I am surrounded by mirrors. So far nothing is happening so I try to find somewhere to get out of this maze but everywhere I turn I am faced with a mirror blocking my way.

All of a sudden I turn around again and there is a person standing behind me pointing to something saying "choose". I look in the direction of where she is pointing and there are a series of stands one with a large piece of raw meat on it, another with a gun, and the last one with a knife.

I didn't want to choose any of them so I simply asked her "why?" She replied saying "choose before it's too late."

Then all of a sudden I heard an angry growl I looked at where the tables were and they disappeared right in front of my eyes, then I looked back at the girl and she also disappeared. Then I saw the dog running for me, I didn't want to show the dog I was scared of it so I crouched down and covered my face.

When the dog reached me it was panting and whimpering so I looked up and it was now a friendly puppy.

When I looked around I heard a laugh from a little girl then the dog was large and angry again, it started to chase the little girl so from instinct I didn't want the little girl to get hurt so I chased after the dog and when I caught up to it I jumped onto it's back then everything ended and I woke up startled in the chair.

My heart was racing and I looked over at tori who was at the computer and asked how I went.

"You have to go home and if anyone asks why tell them that the test made you sick"

"But what were my test results." I said In a confused voice

" Your results were inconclusive. You had abnegation, erudite and dauntless"

"But that's impossible this test was supposed to tell me what faction I should choose"

" It's not impossible its just extremely rare." She said it like I should be worried for my life

"They call it divergent, you can not tell anyone your results not even your family"

"You must leave NOW before they find you! If your instructors in your new faction ask what your aptitude results were tell them abnegation because that is what I entered into the computer."

she shoved me out the door and I quickly turned around and asked "what am... But before I could finish she shut the door on me.

As confused as I was I still walked home wondering what I would choose tommorow at the choosing ceremony.

I suppose I will just have to wait and see!
