waiting on the world to change - john mayer

7:00am

my bare stomach was pressed onto my sheets as i laid face down. my arm was spread out to the side, hugging gently on my spare pillow, whilst my chin were resting on the pillow i had puffed up to that comfortable position.

my eyes stayed open, just observing the air. i was so deep in my thoughts that it didn't matter that i was staring into straight nothing.

all that was processing through my head was the smiles and laughs that took place last night.

every time i thought of my family's laugh, my heart begins to beat faster. happy over the thought that they were glad to have me in their presence.

two light knocks was all it took to shake my body, ending my endless thoughts.

i turn my body towards the door, leaning on my elbow.

i heard a light cough as if he were preparing himself of what to say. the adrenaline and excitement in my body was so strong, i didn't care how early it was.

i threw myself off my bed, racing towards the door before he could speak.

just as you hear his voice about to call out to me, my hand grabs onto the door handle, twisting it gently but fast.

i swing my door open to be met with an equally 'tired' but excited grayson. he jumped a little, being startled over my actions. but with no hesitation, a smile grew on his lips.

"morning e." his raspy voice spoke, the smile never leaving.

"morning." i respond lightly, looking into my brothers happy eyes. what made me insides cheery and soft, was the fact i knew he had just woken up.

he didn't wake up an hour ago or 10 minutes... he just woke up.

you can tell by his flopped yet slightly frizzy hair, the way he threw a shirt over and the texture of his sweatpants.

and this made me warm inside. why?

the first thing he did when he woke up, was to see me.

nadia's giggles were heard beside me as the clinging of keys ringed along with her. i fumbled along with them before we reached my front door.

before i place the key in, my hand twists the handle just to see if dad may of left it open.

his car was out front, so he was most likely to be here. but knowing my dad, he likes going out on runs and would never leave the door unlocked even if he were out for a couple minutes.

when i fully turn the handle and it is clearly unlocked, my other hand flicks the keys in my pocket, nadia following behind me as we enter.

"yo!" nadia yelled out, closing the door behind her. a smile creeps onto my face as she does this every time.

me and dad are almost like her mini little family. she comes here so often that it just feels normal.

so when it comes to me telling her about a boy, i know most of the outcomes.

"hey dad!" i call out quickly after.
