"Y/N, have you checked Engine 81 after that last call?" Chief Boden asked you, stopping you from your workout

"Y/N, have you checked Engine 81 after that last call?" Chief Boden asked you, stopping you from your workout. You were fairly new at Firehouse 51; you replaced an old member and you were a pretty good fit for the team. A few firefighters on the engine outranked you by the simple fact that they have been in the house longer than you which caused friction on scene.

You felt you were an experienced firefighter and your expertise shouldn't be questioned. "Yeah Chief, 81 is all ready for a structure fire," you joked, continuing your workout. He walked away with a smirk, and you kept punching your punching bag.

Moments later, tones dropped.

You had mastered the art of changing clothes in little to no time at all and you didn't want to run a call in your workout clothes, so when you hopped in the engine next to Otis, you made sure you smelled pretty fresh.

You two didn't talk due to your recent head butts on scene. They were quite frequent although they proved time and time again that your judgement should never be questioned. Otis just wanted to be right, just once. When you arrived on scene, there was a smoky apartment complex with people evacuating.

They yelled for help for family members that may have been lost inside or for paramedics to treat their smoke inhalation. When you stepped out the engine, and Captain Casey immediately gave your team their plan of attack.

"Severide and Herrmann, you all soak the 23rd floor, that's where the fire is. Y/L/N and Otis, you go sweep the 22nd floor for any stragglers. The rest of us with help the rest of these people evacuate." Without waiting for a reply, he left.

You and Otis immediately made your way to the 22nd. "Fire department, call out!" you yelled into the blazing heat due to the fire above your heads. You and Otis  continued to do a floor sweep when you heard the floor above you creak. "Y/L/N! Otis! Get out of there now!" You heard Boden's orders through your radio and you immediately obeyed. That's when you heard it: a little girl cry out.

Otis turned when he didn't hear you following. "Y/L/N, let's go! the floor above us will cave any min-" "There's a little girl, we have to save her!" You ran into the room where you heard the crying. The rescue was easy; you picked her up in your arms then ran out the room.

Otis followed as you both ran out barely making it out before the building collapsed. After handing the young girl over to her mother and the medics, you sat far from everyone on the back of the engine. "Y/N, you almost got us killed back there," Otis scorned and you could only give a smile.

He noticed then, and smiled too. "I know, but I have a duty to save lives, and I'm gonna stick to it," you told him truthfully, and he could only agree. "Just check with me first, okay? You had me worried," he said quietly.

You furrowed you eyebrows. "Worried? About me?" you asked, and he nodded. "Of course. I'm always worried about you.. I care about you so much, and if anything were to ever happen while we're together in there, I just-" you kissed him to stop his rambling.

"I love you, Brian," you admitted and his face blushed red.

"I love you, too,"
