You looked down at the wedding program in your hand, tears almost stinging your eyes.
The cover read: "Together, it is with great joy that we, Erin Lindsay and Jay Halstead, invite you to share our happiness as we exchange our wedding vows."
You breathed, ignoring all the sound around you and just focusing on keeping your composure. You loved Jay more than anything and to know he was marrying someone that wasn't you broke you. But as his friend, you knew you had to be here for his big day.
The wedding began, the church full of people, and you spotted William Halstead standing in the front with the other groomsmen; he straightened out his bow tie. Jay stood up front next to the preacher, his hair slicked to perfection and his face shaven clean other than his mustache which was trimmed.
It all happened so fast.
You didn't realized you'd zoned out completely until you heard, "Jay Halstead, you may now kiss your bride." Erin and Jay kissed sweetly, the crowd cheering. You clapped sadly, but attempted to smile. Will spotted you in the crowd but tried not to make it noticeable when he sent you a small smile. He knew of your feelings for Jay.
After they walked back down the aisle, the rest of the crowd was sent to the fellowship hall. You'd taken a seat in the back at a table, trying not to draw too much attention to your sadness. Erin walked in, strutting off her ring. You were happy for her. Jay was a wonderful man. It had been a while since Jay was last seen, and you couldn't stand being here any longer, so you decided to say congratulations to him before you left.
You walked into the room where the groom and bride were after the wedding, but where only Jay was currently. You knocked softly and the door opened to reveal an almost sad, newly wedded Jay. He stepped to the side to let you in. You were the first to speak. "I just came to congratulate you. You and Erin are great for each other," you said.
He didn't speak.
You waited and when he still said nothing, you spoke again. "I really do think you two will be a very successful coupl-" he surprised you with a kiss. He locked the door and pulled the blinds on the window closed. You pulled away. "Jay, what the h-" "you know I love Erin, but she is not you, Y/N," he whispered, kissing you again. He unzipped the back of your dress.
You knew it was wrong, but that didn't stop you from having sex with him on his wedding day..
