Rose
After work I called my mum and told her I'm coming over for a few hours, she accepts my invitation and tells me she will have dinner ready for seven. It's Friday night and one whole week since I last saw him, I don't know why I haven't text him back. I almost feel cruel for not replying to him on Monday night, instead I have filled up my time reading a couple of sad books and tiring myself out at the gym, obviously with the company of either Chloe or Darcy.
Pulling into my mums drive way, I rush out of the car as her front door opens wide. Her arms open and I don't hesitate to run into them. Smelling her perfume, her soft hair tickling my cheek I burst into tears. She runs her fingers through my hair as I shake in her arms, she's doesn't ask me if somethings happened with Luca. She's my mum, she just knows.
"Let's get you inside, it's getting cold." She gently pushes me into the house, I place my long coat over the banister making my way into the large kitchen. Hughie, mums black and white cat is sitting on the window seal, I make my way over stroking the slightly overweight boy.
"Hey handsome." I lean down kissing his fluffy forehead, his purrs calming me down enough to smile. I wish I was a cat sometimes, no real problems, they can just sleep, eat and get cuddles all the time.
"What's been going on Rose?" I turn to face my mum, she's leaning up against the counter. Her blonde hair curled down her back, her blue jeans sucking her in with a teal blue knitted jumper.
"A few things, would Wayne have any possible way of contacting me?" I ask her, slightly concerned with how she's going to react. She frowns instantly, stepping closer to me. I open up my phone handing it to her, she looks through the messages.
"I don't think that would be him Rose." She tells me, handing back my phone. I can see the slight change in her breathing, I feel so guilty for everything.
"How can you tell?" I ask, more confused than ever. She takes a deep sigh, her eyes opening up to look at me again.
"That would be very silly of him; he's just come out of prison." I'm not even sure if she believes what she's saying. I hate how every time she looks at me, I'm the girl who ruined their marriage, even if I never gave my consent, that's what she sees. Surely that's what she can see, he chose me over her and that breaks my heart.
"I'm sorry mum." I lock my fingers with hers, my mum has only been in love once. My daddy. I knew my parents still loved each other when they got divorced, but their love turned into a close friendship. Even when she married Wayne and my dad died, her heart broke. Wayne seemed like a good distraction, especially after dad's death, until I told her the truth.
"Baby listen to me, I know this must be confusing and I cannot imagine how you feel. He's gone from our lives, I don't know who the hell has been texting you." I hold back my tears, I feel overwhelmed and I don't feel safe.
Sitting at the dining table, mums made a roast dinner. Everything looks delicious, I don't know anyone who can make a roast like my Mumma, everything is so fresh and full of flavour and the meat is always juicy.
"So, tell me what's really bothering you." My mum speaks first, I finish chewing the broccoli trying to figure out what to tell her.
"He used me to hurt Daniel." I decide against hiding the truth, I can't hide it from her.
"Why would he do that?" She frowns in confusion.
"Because Daniel has been dating Luca's ex-girlfriend Rachel, he was the reason they broke up, you remember Rachel?" I hope mum doesn't kick off, I don't want Daniel to go through too much crap from everyone.
