"Tom! Tom!" Matt shouted, as he ran towards his black-eyed friend.

Tom turned around and gave Matt a warm smile, momentarily forgetting about the tears spilling from his eyes. He felt more pour down his cheeks, and quickly covered his face in embarrassment. He had been crying for awhile now, and he doubted he could stop.

"Tom? What's wrong?" the ginger asked, moving Tom's arm away from his face. He had bags under his eyes, and tears stained his cheeks, yet he was still smiling.

"Nothing's wrong!" Tom replied, cheerful as ever. "I'm just not feeling well."

Matt frowned, before remembering why he came over.

"Well I brought you something! Hopefully it might cheer you up!" Matt exclaimed as he dug into the pocket of his bright purple hoodie. He excitedly pulled out a ring pop. The package read "Berry Blast!" and it showed a picture of a red and blue swirled ring pop.

"I saw it and remembered you liked candy! So take it," Matt said, as he shoved his candy into Tom's hands.

Tom smiled, before frowning.

"I don't have a place to put this," Tom said. "I don't have pockets."

Tom was right about that. He was wearing faded overalls with a yellow, long-sleeved shirt underneath. No pockets.

"Well you can just eat it now!" Matt suggested. Tom shrugged. Might as well.

"Okay!"

Tom unwrapped the ring pop and placed the ring portion on his index finger. He then put the sweet candy in his mouth.

He closed his eyes so he could take a moment and focus on the sweet, berry flavor of the ring pop. Upon opening his eyes he realized Matt had left. Tom took the candy out of his mouth.

"I wanted to say 'thank you'," Tom whispered, as he put the ring pop back in his mouth.

Not even a minute later, Edd ran up to him, wrapping him in a tight hug.

"Matt told me you were crying! Don't cry! Who hurt you?!" Edd shouted as he buried his face in Tom's shoulder. Tom smiled.

"I'm not crying anymore Edd. I'm okay," Tom assured his taller friend.

It didn't bother him that all of his friends were taller than him. He was six after all, and those thoughts aren't the ones that usually drift through his mind. Usually it's things like sweets, crayons, and friends! Not things like height, grades, and taxes.

"Well here! Matt said he gave you his ring pop so I wanted to give you mine too!"

Edd stuck his hand in one of his jean pockets and pulled out a ring pop, immediately offering it to Tom. This one was green apple flavored.

Tom smiled. "You don't have to give me your ring pop Edd. It's yours."

Edd put on a stern face. "Nonsense! You're sad! You'll take my candy, and you'll be happy! Okay?"

Tom smiled even more, and he giggled at how persistent Edd was.

"Fine," Tom gave in. "I'll take the ring pop if it makes you happy."

"It'll make me happy if taking the ring pop will make you happy."

Tom giggled again and took the green ring pop. He didn't have a place to put it so instead he just held it in his other hand.

"No more crying, okay Tom?" Edd ordered, a warm smile on his face.

Tom nodded. "Okay."

Edd gave Tom a small hug, before running off to who knows where.

Tom finished off the Berry Blast ring pop, and threw away the garbage. WHile he was opening up the Green Apple one, another one of his friends came up to him, this one looking more hesitant than the others.

It was Tord. The friend Tom disliked most. Don't get him wrong, he still liked Tord, it's just that Tord could be a bit of a bully at times.

Without saying a word, Tord pulled a Cherry ring pop out of his pocket and offered it to Tom, a faint blush dusting his cheeks. He was avoiding eye contact, instead staring at the ground.

"For you. Cause you sad," Tord mumbled in his broken English. His norwegian accent was very thick and if Tom hadn't known Tord for months, he probably wouldn't have been able to understand him.

Tom gave Tord a warm smile and took the candy from him.

"Thank you, Tord."

Tom could see Tord's face heat up even more before he ran off as well. At six Tom could see he had the greatest friends.

At twenty-six, Tom thought he had the worst friends. It's hard to believe they used to be so intimate with him. So loving and caring. And now they barely noticed him. Forgetting he was in rooms, or just forgetting him in general.

Not like Tom cared or anything. He didn't need to be included. He didn't need to be talked to! All he needed was himself and his alcohol.

But he was already starting to lose himself.

He wasn't talked to often, usually only by Tord when he greeted Tom in the morning. And he only did that because they had to share an apartment room.

Tom would've found it polite if he didn't have to avoid looking at Tord every day.

Tord blew up their house, Tord killed their neighbor. Tord tried to kill Tom. And yet, he came back, asking for forgiveness, openly crying in front of all of them. And as much as Tom hated himself for it, he felt guilty for what he had done to Tord.

He had scarred half of Tord's face; made him blind in one eye. But worst of all, he had practically ripped Tord's arm off. Where his normal arm once was, a robotic arm had taken its place. Tom felt like crying, he felt like throwing up. He felt every negative emotion possible, guilt being the strongest of them all.

Even now, Tom can't look or even think of Tord without feeling a wave of guilt wash over him. And that's why he drank until he couldn't feel. He didn't want to feel.

But feeling was all he could do. Laying sprawled out on his bedroom floor, Tom felt calm, as his head flooded with old memories. Memories of his friends giving him gifts, or hugs, or even kisses! Memories of playing house, and getting bullied only to have Tord threaten the bullies. Tord. Tom tried his best to avoid Tord. He wondered if Tord ever silently questioned why Tom would avoid him. Tom then wondered if Tord felt bad that Tom would avoid him.

Tom knew Tord has been trying his best to be nicer. And when Tom says "trying" he means overly succeeding. Tord is polite, and helpful, and barely fights with Tom anymore. Almost never fights with Tom anymore. It's almost as if being shot out of the sky humbled him.

That just made Tom even more guilty. Tord had been trying his hardest to make it up to his friends; prove to them that he had changed. And Tom won't even look at him.

"You're just the greatest, Tom," he growled at himself. "You're a fan-fucking-tastic person. He's trying to show kindness and you won't even look at him when he speaks."

Tom moved his hand slightly and his fingers brushed against a bottle. He wrapped his hand around it and brought it towards himself. Tom sat up and lifted the half-empty bottle of Smirnoff to his lips, gulping down the bottles remains.
