Good Impressions
Jailah Christians"You've got to be kidding me." I heard coming from the bedroom. I smiled as I stared at myself in the mirror, trying to finish my beat before I headed off to work. It took about two minutes before the door opened and Odell walked in. "What the hell Jailah?"
"What's wrong?" I asked as I knocked off the excess eyeshadow from my brush before applying it to my lid.
"What's wrong is that all my shit is not in my side of the closet, and all my drawers are empty..."
"Oh, that." I smiled and looked up at him. "I folded everything, even washed a few things last night. I fit most things in your trunk, the rest are in the suitcase by the door."
"Are you okay?" he squinted, coming closer to me. Odell tried to feel my forehead but I moved away just in time. Aint no way he was going to mess up this slay.
"I want you out. How many times do I have to tell you this?"
"Babe, we had one silly fight."
"And that was my last straw, like I told you. There's nothing between us here, no strings, so please just make it easy and get out."
"Ba-."
"My name is Jailah, Jailah Christians at that. I'm a scouting agent for the NFL. From now on address me as Mrs. Christians, Jailah or nothing at all. This is over."
"You know I can't walk away from this so easily B... Jailah."
"Then run." I flashed him another smile, "please just make this easy and get out Odell. No need for the dramatics."
"I can't help it that I actually feel something for you." He leaned against the bathroom counter and looked at me through the mirror. "Jailah, you know what we got is real, it's your stupid rules that got in the way."
"No, it's the fact that you crossed the line and brought a girl to MY house. To make matters worse, I forgive you, bring you to a friends' party which is something I never do, and you leave with one of the models."
"Who told you that?" his brows furrowed.
"Nigga, it's all over theshaderoom, your silly ass got played, she was using you for a come-up and trust me, selling that article to theshaderoom was it."
"Exactly, it shows you that these girls are no good for me. I keep going to them because you keep pushing me away, maybe if you'd just let down your walls for once we could work on us and I wouldn't have to deal with all these users."
"Oh, so you want me to be serious with you, just so that you won't have trouble."
"Pretty much."
"And how would that benefit me."
"You'd be the first woman that I ever claim."
I rolled my eyes. "Odell just go, please. You're blocking my lighting."
"Jailah, you're being ridiculous."
"And you're being annoying as hell. I simply asked you to leave, why is that so hard?"
"You know what, fine.... I'll leave." He walked towards the door then stopped, "but before I do, let me just say something."
"Save it, please."
"No. I'm going to get it off my chest because I may not ever get the chance." He turned to face me and I sighed, putting down my palette. I turned to face him and placed my hands in my lap, waiting. "The moment I laid eyes on you, I wanted to marry you. I believe you were the one for me, I loved your work ethic, the way you carried yourself, your sense of humor and personality. I loved everything, but after a while I began to realize that... you have issues, real issues. You may think that you're the perfect girl cause you're well off, can support yourself, got the best friends on magazines and can bag any man that you want but underneath that perfect like you're living... I know it's all a lie. Maybe that's why your family never wants to come around you."
