A/N
Hey guys, this is a pretty long chapter because I'm on holiday and can't upload as much as usual so I'll make the chapters a little bit longer while I'm away.
Poppy's P.O.V
I crept up the porch and opened the door quietly. As soon as I shut the door and heard it click I was greeted by an angry dad.
He was sitting on the sofa in the living room in his dressing gown and slippers. His reading glasses were on the end of his nose and he put down his book and looked at me.
"I know I'm late but I was with my friends and I completely lost track of time. I didn't think I'd be in this late. I'm really sorry." I tried to create excuses for myself but I could tell by my dad's hard glare that they weren't working.
"You lost track of time? It's nearly eleven o'clock but you lost track of time? What were you doing that was so important that you couldn't even look at a clock until now?" He whispered harshly.
Blank. Blank. Blank. What could I say? I couldn't exactly say 'oh yeah, first, I went shoplifting and then I went to a bar where I was attacked and almost forced to do things with some weirdo who wants to get at the hot, bad boy gangster that is out neighbour and nearly murdered So then I fainted. I only woke up about an hour and a half ago, so yeah!' So instead, I came up with the first thing that came to my head which has got to be lamest explanation known to man.
"Studying" I said. "In Alice's house. We were studying for... A...umm... project! Yeah a project on things to do with school and stuff." As you can tell, I'm a really, REALLY bad liar.
He looked so unconvinced. He started to walk closer to me and say something but then his face changed. He held a concerned look. "What happened to your face? Come into the light a bit more".
I walked further into the light and he hissed as he saw the faint, make-up-covered bruise on my face. "Poppy! What happened to your face?" He asked.
"Dad, it's not that bad. I fell down a couple of stairs in Alice's house and hit my face on the way down." I told him confidently. "No biggie".
"Are you kidding! No biggie? Poppy these will be on your face for about a week!" He exclaimed.
"I know but they're getting better already! They were worse before. Nothing a bit of make up won't fix! Honest dad, they're okay" I tried to reason with him.
"Well if you're so sure but I'm not explaining this to your mother, that's your job" he told me. "Go to bed and sleep! No texting or facebooking"
I settled into my bed and lay there staring at the ceiling. I thought about today's events, I thought about how my face was going to hurt tomorrow but most importantly, I thought about mine and hunters two almost kisses. About how close to each other we were. About how his breath tickled my lips as he breathed nose to nose with me. Then, I let sleep consume me.
The next morning, I woke up to a note on my pillow.
Poppy,
Gone for a day out with some old friends. I'll be out for the day. Dads in work. Call for pizza if you're hungry and I'll leave some money in the kitchen.
Love,
Mom xoxo
P.S. Joseph is sick so I need you to spend the day with him. Call me if you need to. Be safe xxx
I got up and went to check on my little brother. I opened his bedroom door slowly to see him lying in bed with the blankets up to his chin and George's long neck poking out the side from under his arm.
