Chapter 30: Love Me

            I sat down between Ben and Ella at the airport. We just landed in California and Justin said he was on his way with his bodyguards to give us a ride to campus. Caroline left before any of us woke up and we haven’t spoken to her since. We mentioned it on the plane, but Ben and I have no idea what to do. Ella tried to help but she doesn’t know Caroline well enough to know what we should do.

I sighed.

“What’s wrong?” Ben asked. “Caroline?”

I don’t think he even needs to ask.

I nodded.

“It’ll be okay,” Ella said. “Caroline will come around. She overreacted and she needs to calm down first. Once she calms down she will realize she made a mistake and you’ll get to talk to her.”

“I hope so,” I said, “because I didn’t want things to end like that. Ben, Caroline, and I were always inseparable during school. I didn’t plan on just leaving here.”

“Neither of us did,” Ben replied, “but things happen. Caroline obviously has a lot to think about. She’ll sort it out. It’s not the end of our friendship with her.”

“Thanks guys,” I smiled. “I just need to get it off my mind and enjoy our first experience with college.”

“Exactly,” Ella said, “and we will help a lot with that.”

“Melanie!”

I turned my head and spotted Justin walking in. I stood up and walked over to him. He hugged me before I could say anything. I talked to him before I got on the plane this morning when I figured out Caroline already left. He gave me support like he usually does, but it’s nothing like having him here in person.

“It’s okay,” he whispered.

“It wasn’t supposed to end like that.”

“I know,” he pulled away and smiled, “But this is the beginning of something great.”

“That’s true,” I smiled.

“Hey,” Justin waved at Ben and Ella. “It’s good to see you two again.”

“Thanks for picking us up,” Ella replied. “It was really nice of you.”

“No problem, I planned on picking up Melanie anyway.”

“Thanks man,” Ben said. “We’ll have to make it up to you.”

“Nah, don’t worry about it. It’s all good man.”

“Anyway, thanks again.”

“Let’s go!” I exclaimed. “Our dorm waits!”

Everyone laughed along and Justin’s bodyguards made sure we made it to his vehicle safely. We made sure not to say anything until we were in the vehicle because I knew there were probably paparazzi listening somewhere.

“As anxious as you are right now, are you guys hungry?” Justin asked. “We could have my bodyguards pick something up for us while we wait in the car. We can eat it on our way to the college.”
