Chapter 20: Born to be Somebody

There's a dream in my soul,

A fire that's deep inside me.

There's a me no one knows,

Waiting to be set free.

I'm gonna see that day;

I can feel it,

I can taste it.

Change is coming my way.

I was born to be somebody.

Ain't nothing that's ever gonna stop me.

“We’re graduated!” Caroline cheered and hugged me. We just finished walking the aisle and the ceremony was officially over.

“I know!” I laughed and we ran over to tackle Ben.

He pulled us both into a hug together, “Are you ready for California Mel?”

“Bring it on!” I high fived him.

“Picture!” Melody ran over with a camera in her hand.

            I stood between Caroline and Ben and we posed for a few pictures. Ben took the camera from her when we were done and took a picture of me with Melody. When we were finished he took a family picture before my parents left so we could celebrate.

“You’re going to stay right?” I asked Melody.

“I don’t know, it’s a party for you guys.”

“No it’s not,” Caroline argued, “We grew up hanging out with you too.”

“Yeah, please?” I begged her. She’s only here for graduation so I want to see her before she leaves tomorrow.

“Okay,” she smiled, “I’ll go to this party with you.”

“Thank you!” I hugged her.

“Let’s get going,” Caroline said, “Let’s change so we can party.”

“We’ll meet at Caroline’s house,” Melody said, “I have to change too.”

“Me too,” Ben said, “Good idea.”

“Okay so meet at my house in an hour?” Caroline suggested.

            We all nodded and agreed. I walked with Melody through the building and I was pulled into one of the classrooms. A scream emerged my lips as someone covered my mouth.

I smiled and hugged him, “You’re going to give me a heart attack.”

Justin chuckled, “Sorry but I couldn’t just go in the open.”

“What are you doing here?” I asked him.

“You’ve been talking about graduation constantly; did you really think I wouldn’t show up?”

I smiled, “Thank you, it means a lot to me.”

“I know it did, that’s why I came. How do you feel?”

“Relieved,” I laughed, “This last month has been terrible.”

“I’m sorry, did he ever find out it was me?”

I shook my head, “He never asked me again although I’m sure he’s been curious about it. I’m glad he didn’t though because who knows what he would have done with that kind of information. I haven’t even told my sister or Caroline. In fact she’s probably wondering where I went.”
