Tick
Tick
Tick
I listen to the clock ticking away as I stare into darkness, unable to sleep. I turn my head to see Jax sleeping, his head buried in the pillow on his stomach and his arms folded underneath him. I look at him, his eyes closed and his mouth slightly parted.
He looks so peaceful.
As much as I wanted to sleep my mind just wouldn't, after everything that happened. Bringing me back to the places I tried so hard to bury had my head spinning. Slowly I lift the covers off as I get out the bed. Putting on some shoes, I walk slowing out of the room careful to not wake Jax. I head straight to the kitchen, needing a late night snack. Food has always helped calm me and nothing is better than a peaceful midnight snack. I reach for the fridge, hoping to find something good.
Nothing. I open the freezer, I skim the shelves when I see something. I smile as I grab the tub, double chocolate ice cream. Perfect, I assume Cade went to pick some up. I open the tub to see just enough for one more serving.
"Thank you Cade for your generosity!" I whisper, careful to not wake anyone. I grab a spoon and head towards the front door. I walk down the steps towards the spot where it once was dead, I stop and looking for any sign of my destruction but there's nothing. Just green grass and flowers. I take a spoonful of ice cream, I sigh at the cold snack as it just melts in my mouth.
"Cade will be so pissed in the morning." I turn to see Tyler walking to me from my left, like he's just returning from somewhere, definitely not from the house we've been staying in. I shrug, he'll live.
"Not my problem." I heard him chuckle as he stops right next to me. I watch him as he looks down as well.
"That was something." Looking back down, I knew I could heal, but to be able to restore nature, now that was new. Maybe it comes with the super healing, as Jax puts it.
"Yea..." I breathe out, still reeling from everything. Trying to come to terms with everything, how crazy my life has become. I mean my life was never normal not with my parents but this was just on a whole other level of...crazy.
"I knew they existed, but...." He pauses as I stay quiet waiting for him to continue. Wolves with abilities are not exactly common but they are known. Known to at least Alphas and of course rouges. They are more rare to be seen, or found out since they are scared to be killed or controlled.
"To see one in person, that's just, just incredible." I tense just a bit, when wolves talk like that about wolves with abilities it's usually not good. I'm pretty sure he noticed my change in posture.
"I didn't mean like that, I just mean that seeing real magic is just not something one sees everyday." He explains, I take another spoonful of ice cream.
"Yea, it's dangerous for a wolf like me to expose ourselves like I did earlier."
"The Annual Ball?" He looks at me, my eyes never leaving the ground. I think back to the ten dead wolves, the dead wolves that were killed because of me. I let out a defeated sigh, feeling guilty.
"They were after me." I confess, blaming myself because they spilt more blood trying to get their hands on me. I think of Cade's uncle and that poor wolf's mate.
"I've heard about wolves having one ability, but you have more than one." I can feel him trying to put the pieces together.
"I didn't think that was even possible. I mean I read that it was not possible for a wolf's body to handle more than one ability." I take another spoonful, the ice cream making me relax with its refreshing feeling.
