I laid there for a long time, Jax realized that I had no plan to move and that I didn't want him to touch me so he joined me. I'm not sure how long it's been but the grey clouds have finally dispersed leaving a blue sky. My currently drenched body now dry from the sun, I couldn't speak. My throat still burned as well as the rest of my body, every once in a while I'd lift my arms to see if the red color was gone.
Nope, still red as a cherry. I wondered if the rest of my body was the same color.
"Firebug?" He was still using that nickname, man I hoped that wouldn't stick. Slowly, I turned my head to my left, meeting Jax's face. He was laying flat on his back as well, his head turned towards me. His reassuring smile showing me that he was checking on me, making sure I was still here. I looked back up, my mind trying to wrap my head around what happened. I've never done something like that before, yes I've created flames with a part of my arm but never like this before.
How did I do that? That was terrifying, it was like I lost connection to myself, to my wolf, to the world. My mind lost control, my feelings in overdrive like I was having a panic attack. Did I just have a panic attack using my fire? My fire protecting me while I had an attack, that's insane, scary.
"I brought water!" Cade's voice brings me out of my thoughts. My body still too heavy to move, as much as I'd want to move I just haven't had the energy or strength to move. Jax moves to get up, part of me wants to ask him for help but I'm scared of burning him. I lift my arm checking the color once again, the color starting to fade slowly but not fast enough. He sits up next to me still keeping his distance as he watches me warily. I lick my lips craving the water in Jax's hand, I raise my hand up to face seeing how hot I am. My body still buzzing hot, but not as hot to burn, more like a hot beverage hot.
"Oaks?" I turn towards Cade, both of them staring at me, hoping I'd make a move. I glance at Jax, his eyes roaming my red body.
"Help" I whisper, my throat still betraying me, Jax drops the bottle and quickly moves behind me.
Careful.
I mind link him, his movements slower.
Still hot.
He slowly lifts me up from behind, sitting me up and he positions my body in between his, my head leaning against his right collarbone. He hisses at the touch, my skin against his. Now sitting up, I see that Cade and Tyler has never left either. They've been seated at the bottom of the stairs leading to the front door. I watch as Jax unscrews the bottle, I reach to grab it bringing it up to my mouth. I let the cold water go down my throat instantly cooling me off, the pain in my throat decreasing with every gulp. Before I am satisfied, the water is gone. I frown at the empty bottle as I throw it aside, Jax bringing a new one up to me, I grab it and greedily gulp it down.
We repeat this process another three times until the pain in my throat is completely gone. Throwing the last bottle aside, I gulp testing my throat. Licking my lips finally having some kind of moisture, something as trivial as this has never felt so good.
"Firebug?" I hear Jax call out. I go to open my mouth but stopping scared it may still be painful. I clear my throat first just testing the waters before I go to speak.
"I don't think I like that new nickname of mine." I say slowly, relived there's no pain. The slight vibration underneath tells me Jax was laughing at my comment. Cade and Tyler visibly relax at Jax's and my little reaction. My body still heavy, I stay rested on Jax not entirely hating our position at the moment. His body causing mine to visible relax, my wolf happy with the contact.
"I don't know, it's growing on me." I tilt my head slightly up to meet Jax's face, his features visibly relaxing, the fear I saw earlier gone. I give him a small smile.
