I miss him. a lot. I know it's only been two weeks, and he comes home tonight, but, still. I miss him, and I want him here now. I hate it when he goes on book signing tours like this. At least this year he only has two.

*Riiiiing!*

My phone. I better go get it. It's probably the precinct, saying that the traffic cam footage is in for the scene we investigated last night.

"Beckett."

"Hey, Kate!"

"Cas! I've missed you so much! Where are you at?"

"I'm in the D.C. airport, I think we're about to board. I should be home by this evening."

"Great. I can't wait to see you!"

"Me either. And, Kate?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you."

"I love you, too"

That phone call, that's what I needed. I go get dressed, drink some coffee, then go to work. I'm just sitting down at my desk to tackle some of the paperwork (yes, the stuff that Castle NEVER helps me with), and Espo and Ryan come over.

"Yo, Beckett! Where's Castle?"

"Still on his book tour..."

"Oh yeah. When's he coming home?"

"He actually called me earlier saying he was about to board the plane."

Esposito and Ryan exchanged a glance.

"Um, Beckett. Where was this flight out of?"

"Why?"

"Just..."

"D.C., now tell me why you needed to know that!"

"Ahh, Beckett..."

"Ryan, what?"

"When did he tell you this?"

"Two hours ago. Guys!"

"We just saw on the news, about an hour ago a plane out of D.C., en route to New York..."

"Guys, what's going on?" I was starting to get really freaked out by this conversation. The boys didn't joke around like this.

"It crashed. The plane crashed."
