school ended and cheryl walked home. she desperately hoped her mom was miraculously not home she cheryl could lock herself in her room, free from her mom and the rest of the world. she sighed. that was so unlikely. her mom had so much money, she was rich. even though cheryl's dad had died a few years ago, Penelope blossom barely had to work a day in her life because of the maple syrup company she ran. it wasn't hard at all, but she begged to differ.
anyways, cheryl desperately hoped her mom wasn't home. it was weird, cheryl didn't want her there because her day had been actually good for once. she had finally talked to someone (kind of) about how she wanted to get better, and they had comforted her. but she also didn't' want her there because her day had been terrible. everyone had avoided her, so she couldn't have apologized. or maybe she could've, and she was just making up excuses for it.
whatever the reason, cheryl hadn't apologized. yet. at least she had made a new friend, kind of. she hadn't decided what veronica was to her just yet. an acquaintance? cheryl and veronica would have to work their way up to being friends. cheryl hoped they could be. she missed having friends.
she laughed a bit at the thought. friends. she hadn't had any of those in a while. cheryl probably didn't even know what it felt like to actually have a physical friend anymore. but she could imagine it. going to school everyday knowing someone would be there, waiting. someone would be there to ask her if she was ok when cheryl was crying about her mother. they would be there to hug her when she needed one. they would be there to love her unconditionally.
maybe cheryl was expecting too much out of her imaginary friend. she knew nobody could love her unconditionally. the last friend she had had had left her when things had gotten rough. cheryl's family life, her dad dying. maybe thats why she had anger issues. everyone who had once loved her had left her, in a way. maybe now she was building up walls, not only so that people couldn't get in, but since nobody had been in, nobody could leave cheryl again. alone.
