this was going much better than veronica had expected. there was no awkwardness between them, and veronica was really enjoying herself. betty and kevin and jughead and archie had been totally wrong. there was nothing mean about cheryl, only maybe when she kept complaining about walking. but that was funny in veronica opinion, so what had happened to make them hate her so much? maybe cheryl was different around other people. maybe something had happened between her and betty, and so now they were enemies?

veronica shook her head. stop thinking veronica. you're only making things worse for yourself. she tried to focus on what was happening in the moment. she was looking for her mom so she could introduce her to cheryl.

"MOOOOMMMMM" she called. where was she? "MOTHER! HERMIONE LODGE! I HAVE SOMEONE I WANT YOU TO MEET!!" her voice was getting tired. just as she was going to give up and drag cheryl to her room, her mother descended the stairs.

"i'm right here veronica. no need to yell." her mom was beautiful, looking like an older version of veronica, which, in a way, she was.

"it didn't seem that way a minute ago, i was yelling and you were nowhere to be found." veronica crossed her arms. she didn't usually talk all snootily like this to her mom, but she was still kinda mad at her for making her move. even though it wasn't her fault at all. it was mostly her dad's fault, getting that 'amazing new job' that veronica didn't really know anything about. it wasn't like he was doing anything illegal, her dad used to be a lawyer in new york. he loved the law. Snap out of it veronica! She thought to herself. You're here now with your friend cheryl and your mom in the middle of a conversation. You can't be thinking about random things like why your dad moved to riverdale right now. She sighed. She kept zoning out today. Maybe just the stress of school.
"Veronica?" Her mom asked. "Did you hear me?" Veronica immediately snapped out of whatever daze she was in and quickly came back to reality.
"Huh? Oh no, sorry, what were you saying?" Veronica mentally facepalmed. She had been telling herself to stop zoning out and in the process she zoned out! Stupid stupid stupid.
"Well, I was asking you who your friend is." Her mom started.
"Oh her name's Cheryl." Veronica smiled. Saying Cheryl's name did that to her for some reason.
"Hello Cheryl, I'm Hermione, Veronica's mom."
"Uh, hi." Cheryl fiddled her hands. Veronica guessed she didn't really know how to socialize.
"Aaaaanyway, Cheryl lets go up to my room." She dragged cheryl upstairs to be room.
