the next day veronica approached cheryl a bit cautiously. she didn't know why, betty and kevin and archie and jughead had said cheryl was kind of mean, not that she was going to explode at any moment if veronica tapped her on the shoulder.
"hey... cher..." veronica said hesitantly. cheryl turned around, and her face lit up seeing veronica. or maybe that was just what veronica hoped had happened. she didn't know what was going on with cheryl and her emotions, she couldn't possibly have a crush on her, they'd only interacted once.
"cher?" cheryl asked. "are we going by nicknames now?" she smiled.
"well, you called me ronnie, so i figured i'd call you cher." veronica stood up straighter.
"mkay." cheryl smiled at her. her smile was weird, like the mona lisa, only you could tell she was smiling, but you couldn't figure out what it meant.
"soo, uh, i have to ask you something." veronica asked, not quite looking at her eyes.
"hm? yeah sure, what is it?" cheryl waited.
"um, can i ask you later? maybe like at my house after school?"
"you... want me to come over? like, to your house?" cheryl stared at her, as if she thought veronica was joking.
"well yeah, duh. that's what 'at my house after school' means." veronica was suddenly worried she had been a bit mean. she told herself to chill out, it wasn't an insult.
"um... yeah yeah of course i will!" she smiled again, and veronica's insides melted. stop it veronica control yourself. veronica thought.
"okay... meet me right outside the school after school ends. bye cher." she waved goodbye.
"bye ronnie." cheryl waved back, and walked in the opposite direction.
